I can understand the Fear & Hysteria. - But.....
The wisdom on the street is that Republicans (and
even some Democrats) were/are so frightened by Bush's
handling of the 9-11 incident that they will tolerate
all the lying and the making public fools out of them
that they have endured, that they will tolerate the
new and open American torture policy, that they
will tolerate the possibility of an endless, draining
war, that they will tolerate just about any insult
on liberty and The American Way, just so long as they
are promised that these foreign ways will bring comfort
and safety to them.
I can understand the Fear & Hysteria. My mother is the
same way. For her the universe is a frightening place
always one step away from defeating her. She too tosses
away her old values and liberty. For example she will
no longer go on a one-week vacation because of all the
terrible things that will certainly happen to her or
her cat if she goes. The cat will starve, or get away,
the house burn down...The list of paralyzing fears
she has is almost endless, because after all,
the imagination is infinite, reality is finite.
And she has not the President of the United States
nor professional AM radio fear-pimps and Mass Media Mind
Manipulators -- that these naturally timid people
seem to gravitate towards, -- egging on her
destructive paralyzing fears.
I can understand the Fear & Hysteria. I know
the knowledge that over the last ten years only
300 Americans/year have died from terrorism but
from car accedents over 40,000/year -- this
knowledge will not calm the irrational Republican
hysteria. The fraidycats have been systematically
recruited by Republicans for over 50 years.
Now they have been played.
So I can understand the Republican Fear & Hysteria.
Not everybody is cut out to be the bold John Wayne sheriff
boldly walking into the troubled saloon. No. Many people
are more inclined to lay a risk-free preemptive ambush
from the back of the bar in cowardly fear. After all,
honorable and legal behavior carries with it, *REAL* risks.
Often times, terrible risks, as any John Wayne movie
made perfectly clear. Or, as any real cop on the beat
or judge on the bench, or soldier at war will tell you.
Some jobs are just plainly not for cowards or the lazy.
Some jobs require - what we used to call: honor and character.
I guess we don't require that in our leaders anymore.
In fact, we make fun of them, even swiftboat them if
they have character, call them wine sippers or deranged by
battle or P.O.W. camps or amputations, whatever.
Any excuse will do, and the imagination is infinite.

Now we vote for the guy with the nastiest, catchiest
imagination, the best feelsgoodisms, the most free candy.
The civil candidate we call a wine sipping cheese-eater.
....probably French or a fag. "The Breck Girl" ...Whatever.

Voting for President is no longer our duty, it's
entertainment just like football, just a little
more wordy. Cowardice and bad character are not
drawbacks, no it's how these are spun that matters,
just candy-coat it enough so we can force it down,
then laugh about it, call it an advantage, an
opportunity to score, let's see the other
team beat that! Ha ha.
I can understand the Republican Fear & Hysteria.
Some is natural, (like my mom,) and some is cultivated.
Republicans have been experts at this cultivation since
McCarthyism and a-Commie-behind-every-bush.
.... But there is one thing I cannot understand.
How can you guys let them continue lying to you, making
you the perpetual fool of the watercooler wars?
....Into perpetual losers?
This is "constant and severe" abuse.
Have you no pride? No self-esteem?
How do you swallow it, over and over?
I think I have the answer....

A few crackpots not too far from Bush's own extremist over-reactions aren't
a threat unless you allow them to be. Bush has.
Bush has not only allowed these muslim extremists to terrorize America he's
enabled them by making them a 'cause celeb' and bolstered them to their own
level of existence, and gave them a platform.
It's good to be aware of their motives, yes?
It's better to be well informed of their limitations.
Bush has done neither, he wanted a 'quick fix' by eradicating the problems
through destruction.
Bush's motivations are the coward's way out.

Doug, you nailed it. It may not be "batter person syndrome," but it's some
variant of that.
Many of us have described Bush Republicans as "brownshirts." The reference
to Nazi agitators is an attempt to explain the hyper-polarization that
energizes the most obnoxious of Bush supporters. The Brownshirts almost
literally beat Nazism into the German populace. Bush Brownshirts were/are
attempting the same thing, with very similar tactics. These tactics also
resemble mafia and gang recruitment tactics. The Bush media machine has
made it clear through innumerable threats, and flat-out statements, that
"you're either with us, or against us." In other words, ANYONE who is not
in lock step with the Bush machine is their enemy. Once you buy into this
ideology, there's no neutral ground: You're in it until your Fuhrer decides
you're not. Weak-minded, belligerent, regressive, disaffected repug
rednecks are fodder for this kind of bullying tactic, and BushCo has played
them since Day 1.
