Most Americans believe the Virgin Birth is literally true, a Newsweek
poll finds

Seventy-nine percent of Americans believe that, as the Bible
says, Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, without a human father,
according to a new NEWSWEEK poll on beliefs about Jesus.
Sixty-seven percent say they believe that the entire story of
Christmas—the Virgin Birth, the angelic proclamation to the shepherds,
the Star of Bethlehem and the Wise Men from the East—is historically
accurate. Twenty-four percent of Americans believe the story of
Christmas is a theological invention written to affirm faith in Jesus
Christ, the poll shows. In general, say 55 percent of those polled,
every word of the Bible is literally accurate. Thirty-eight percent do
not believe that about the Bible.
Sixty-two percent say they favor teaching creation science in addition
to evolution in public schools; 26 percent oppose such teaching, the
poll shows. Forty-three percent favor teaching creation science instead
of evolution in public schools; 40 percent oppose the idea.
For this NEWSWEEK Poll, Princeton Survey Research Associates interviewed
by telephone 1,009 adults, aged 18 and older on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3. The
margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Luke 1 does not explicitly say that Yahweh impregnated Mary, only that
he made it possible to conceive. It compares her to her cousin
Elisabeth who "hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is
the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing
shall be impossible."

I have a hard time with this statistic, considering that only 76.5% of
Americans are Christians.

Most Christians I know live just like the Atheists I know. Christians watch
porn, screw hookers, go to strip joints, have affairs, yada yada. Many
churches have closed down do to a lack of attendance. Muslims are more
dedicated to their religion than Christians are. So are Jews. Christians
seem to pay lip service to being Christian and little more. There are the
dedicated of course, but most people are not like that. Back in the 50's,
there were people who went to church several times a week. Now the same
families go on Christmas and Easter. The Christian churches have lost their
grip on a large segment of society. So it seems superficial to call the US a
Christian society since most "Christians" don't even follow their faith.***

Let alone go to church on Sunday, rather than on the sabbath. (saturday)
ALL people behave the way you mentioned, jews, muslims, hindu's, christians,
scientologists, mormons, jehovahs witness', seventh day adventist, american
indian religions, etc., because thats how mankind behaves. Muslims and jews
certainly dont behave any better, sin less, or adhere to their religion
more, than any other religion does.
