MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2004
No matter what their political views or stances on social issues
may happen to be, case-by-case, the overriding thing for us all to
remember now is the phenomenal bravery and sacrifices that those
extraordinary men and women... many of them barely more than boys
and girls, back then... performed for America and their Allied nations
in the horrendous war that needed to be won against the genuinely
world-threatening tyrannies of Germany and Japan, 60 and more
years ago, this year.
We're losing them now at the tragic rate of 1,200 a day, and
people of such magnificent ethical stature, as a group, in such
numbers, may never again be seen.
IF ONLY every single one of them could have passed their
memories on to talented biographers, to have been recorded for all
future generations to read and appreciate. Each of them probably
could have told us enough to fill volumes, and once they've gone,
those experiences and memories are lost to the world forever.
We ALL owe a HUGE salute to those phenomenal soldiers,
sailors, pilots, submariners, Marines, nurses, etc., etc. -- and to
the USO workers who helped and entertained them -- as well
to all the "Rosies" back home who rivited, and helped to make
victory possible!!
May we NEVER forget what they went through, so that we
all could continue to be free, generations later!
