Object: ABC News says "Tamiflu" in USA = 2.5 million doses. Here's what they DIDN'T tell us!!
WHY did ABC News even bother to air this "Bird Flu"
scenario -- if they were going to OMIT the **most**
important details???
According to ABC News "Primetime" tonight (9-15-05), the
ONLY effective treatment for the Bird Flu is a drug called "Tamiflu"
that only ONE plant in the entire world makes. Roche's plant in
Switzerland.
There is NO vaccine for that strain of flue, and development of
one cannot begin until the flu (possibly imminently) mutates to a
strain that can be transmitted from human to human.
When humans catch this flu (from birds, so far), the mortality rate
has been 55%.
Britain has acquired 20 million "doses," compared to the USA's
2-1/2 million. That's enough for 1/3 of Britain's population. And for
less than 1% of that of the USA. (Good 'ol Bush. 'WAY too late
again!! *Some* "leader!" This flu has been brewing in Asia since
1997 -- getting more dangerous steadily. One thing about Presidents
named Bush. We can COUNT of them to follow a pattern of "too
little, too late.")
But... never mind. Even if we had 100 million doses, it would be
worse than useless for MOST Americans. Other than, perhaps,
President Bush, his cabinet, members of Congress, Supreme Court
Justices... and a bunch of high-powered lobbyists and heads of
corporations. And their families.
Here's WHY.
(And -- how in the WORLD could ABC News have so *cluelessly**
overlooked something as incredibly OBVIOUS as this???)
With a VACCINE, one usually gains immunity from the adminis-
tration of just ONE dose.
But in the case of TREATMENT with pharmaceuticals -- FORGET
about it!
It takes a COURSE of treatment... over a period of DAYS, at least,
consuming MANY capsules... to stave off death from this highly-lethal
flu.

Standard Dosage -- Prophylaxis of Influenza
The safety and efficacy of TAMIFLU for prophylaxis of
influenza in pediatric patients younger than 13 years of age
have not been established.
The recommended oral dose of TAMIFLU for prophylaxis
of influenza in adults and adolescents 13 years and older
following close contact with an infected individual is 75 mg
once daily for at least 7 days. Therapy should begin within 2
days of exposure. The recommended dose for prophylaxis
during a community outbreak of influenza is 75 mg once daily.
Safety and efficacy have been demonstrated for up to 6 weeks.
The duration of protection lasts for as long as dosing is
continued.
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/oseltamiv_ids.htm
Did you catch the THREE most relevant points? ALL of which
were either *ignored* or *overlooked* by ABC News?
(1) If the person exposed is under 13 -- the proper dosage
hasn't been determined. (But at least, in the article, a
*recommended* dosage table is provided for patients
over 1 year old.) (UNDER 1 year... play taps!)
(2) It would take AT LEAST *** 7 days *** of treatment at
one 75 mg. capsule/day, to get the job done. BUT ---
(3) The duration of protection lasts only for as long as dosing
is continued. (After that, what? Tough luck for a substan-
tial percentage of the patients?)
Let's say, then, that to be out of the woods, one would need
to (a) be 13 or over, ideally, and (b) take the drug for say, 10 days.
If that's the case, the USA does NOT have enough Tamiflu
for 2-1/2 million of its 300,000,000 people. It has enough for only
a quarter-million of them. And Britain? NOT enough for one-third
of its 64,000,000 people. Only enough for *two* million of them.
Or about one out of every 30 Brits.
SO -- ABC News -- what were you THINKING when you produced
that report? And... WERE you thinking... at all?

I agree, the lack of the vaccine is a crime.
But t is not intended to be atreatment. It is intended to be a vaccine.
The standard flu "plan" is to see if an outbreak starts, then as quick;y as
possible vaccinate the most vulnerable population.
Waiting till people get sick is worthless --- many still doe even if
receiving treatment.
Expecting noone to die from a major pandemic is unreasonable. We cannot be
kept safe from life.

So many stumble into the carnal blame game.. The blame for earth's woe's

group of people more guilty than another.. There are good and bad in every
group, including conservative and liberal - just different concerns.. A
biggest mistake of mankind? Not listening.. If we would address the concerns
of both parties, we'd have a great and strong and righteous nation, but
instead we line up in sides and lob things at each other.. In other words,
all too many of us are seduced into following "that wisdom that is earthy.."

be our very BEST shot.
