If the right to have an abortion is such good thing, why do we hide
it?
....Why don't we see tv shows where the main character takes a few days
off to get an abortion, like any cosmetic surgery?
....Why don't we sell "abortion insurance" to cover those that will
have an abortion, if it is so natural?
....Why don't people put announcements in the newspaper to let others
know of their recent abortion, if it is a good thing?
....We should see CNN reports that such-and-such celebrity recently
took a few days off the tour for their abortion...but, we don't.
If it is such a "good" thing to have an abortion, why does everyone
treat it shamefully and as something to hide?

I do not think that abortion is a good thing. The RIGHT to choose abortion
is a good thing, the practice is another matter.
Women must have the right -- although it is a right that I can not
appreciate or use, it is a right that I can not take away. I think that we,
as a society, should communicate to our kids that sex outside of marriage --
or at least a Very Committed Relationship -- is something that has to be
controlled and should not be viewed as recreational sport. We should also
convey to our kids that life is to be cherished and not tossed aside because
it is not convenient to support.
Having said that, if we as a society sened these messages and there remains
a demand for abortion services, then it is a right of the woman (not child)
to make this solemn decision without any bitching from me. If a child is
faced with this important decision, then a crime has been committed by
somebody, and said child needs the support of an adult to work through the
issues. I accept that it is likely to lead to the decision to abort, but I
firmly believe that a child needs a guardian -- a parent would be my first
choice -- to sign off on such a thing.
Sure, a girl of 13 or 14 can have sex with a boy of the same age, and this
may or may not represent a criminal act against the girl, but such a girl
can easily be swayed to have sex by a man of 18 or 19 and this is a crime
that need to be prosecuted. Or, it is at least a relationship that the
girl's guardian should be aware of.
When we have adult women that want to abort, it is nobody's business except
hers. If she is married, then _maybe_ her spouse should weigh in, but
certainly society should have no say. Society can and arguably should define
a period beyond which the choice to abort should be taken away, but if a
woman seeks an abortion ahead of that benchmark, it is her right to make
that choice.
Where to draw the benchmark? I don't know, but there is no clinical value to
partial birth abortions. I think it is reasonable that the right to abort
should be restricted after the start of the third trimester.

I understand the choice argument.
What I don't understand is how people came to think an unborn entity wans't

I often wonder what gives these anti-choice loons like PottyTrot the idea
that they, and the government, have the right to intrude on other peoples
private sex and reproductive lives...people they don't even know or care
about. If they really want to help "children", there are plenty born-
alive ones around that are in need of help.
