ACLU Drops Lawsuit Against Ohio 'Choose Life' License Plates |
Perhaps common sense and decency will prevail and the ACLU will acknowledge
that most of it's causes are frivolous. Were I to reside in Ohio, I'd order
my "Choose Life" license plates today.
http://www.cnsnews.com/ThisHour.asp#ACLU%20Drops%20Lawsuit%20Against%20Ohio%20'Choose%20Life'%20License%20Plates
(CNSNews.com) - The American Civil Liberties Union dismissed its case
against the "Choose Life" license plate in Ohio, thus ending all legal
challenges against the license plate. The ACLU had filed the lawsuit on
behalf of the National Abortion Right Action League (NARAL), which sought to
block sales of the license plate, along with the entire system of specialty
and vanity license plates for Ohio. "The ACLU realized that it didn't have a
prayer in its case against the Ohio 'Choose Life' license plate," said
Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, which intervened on
behalf of the license plate owners and pregnancy and adoption services
providers. A portion of the proceeds from sale of the license plates are
used to support local crisis pregnancy centers or other groups that promote
adoption. The law prohibits funds generated from proceeds of the plate to go
to any group that provides, promotes, or refers for abortion, Liberty
Counsel noted. "Dismissing the case against the 'Choose Life' license plate
was the first sound legal strategy move the ACLU made in this case. 'Choose
Life' license plates have raised millions of dollars for adoption and
pregnancy services across the country. This is a vital and constitutional
program," said Staver.

That may seem like it, but they do play "devil's advocate" for a lot of
issues. They don't always win, but of course they shouldn't always win
since they aren't necessarily right, but they do help to verify the
constitutionality of laws, etc. They don't create or repeal law. Only the
government can do that, be it congress of judges.

FYI, all a.a. readers who are familiar with Craig Chilton:
Craig has claimed no fewer than six times that he is an elected
official of the Iowa Republican party. To be specific, he says that
he has been *RE*-elected the State Central Committee:
BUT: I did some homework by speaking directly to members of the Iowa
Republican party, specifically, Marlys Popma, Darrell Kearney, Joel
Hannahs, Chad Barth, and Carolyn McGoldrick. I received responses
from some of them, and they did not recognize the name Craig Chilton.
Mr. Kearney flat out said Craig was not a member of the central
committee whatsoever.
Okay, so maybe they aren't entirely informed. But, what about the
website? Wouldn't the Local Party Officials directory for Black Hawk
county have Craig's name there?
http://www.iowagop.org/directory.asp
Hm, no Craig.
Let's try somewhere else:
http://www.elect...@co.black-hawk.ia.us/ ?
Nope.
A Google search of Iowa Republicans, Black Hawk County Republicans,
and the like produced nothing. Black Hawk County Republicans site
seemed to be having server trouble, and if anything develops with it I
will post it.

Black Hawk County Republicans site
seemed to be having server trouble, and if anything develops with it I
will post it.

challenges against the license plate. The ACLU had filed the
lawsuit on
behalf of the National Abortion Right Action League (NARAL), which
sought to

said
Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, which
intervened on
behalf of the license plate owners and pregnancy and adoption

don't watch it.
R rated TV does not lobby nonstop to make R rated TV mandatory to
watch, read about and teach in school under law. R rated TV likewise
does not try to ban, harass, or outlaw all other types of TV. See the
difference there?
If all you loons did was worship your personal sky pixie, and left the

Yeah ya would and you do. we are very well aware of how your ilk works.
When has an atheist/agnostic _ever_ done anything nearly as bad as the
kind of things Christians etc. do to people they don't like?
Was told to us long, long ago.
Of course, you seem to get all your info from "a little bird told me"

I do life in Ohio and, by observation, very few people have chosen to
"choose life". I have a feeling that it's the extra $30 these plates
cost, $10 of which is tax revenue to the State.

Thanks. I was looking for that number and couldn't find it this
morning. I've seen only one of them so far, but maybe they are more
popular in the southern part of the State. I was especially amused
that "Pets Ohio" has outsold "Choose Life".

Seen a couple here and there. I'm waiting for a "Choose Life" with
"OOPS," "C MAN," "BUCK U" (Which is an actual OSU plate), or something
similarly cheeky.
