Any group that is crazy enough to claim "Christian persecution" just
because they were told "NO" would probably have been a disruptive
presence, therefor the owner was correct in refusing accomodations. Do
atheists really want to be recognized as a oppressed minority?

Atheists claim discrimination
The owner of a coffee shop near Birmingham, Ala., has banned members of
a secular group for atheists, agnostics, and other questioners from
meeting in her cafe. The Universist Movement is claiming Christian
persecution, while Cool Beans owner Amy Anderson says she's only trying
to maintain order in her business.
In an increasingly religious America, the nonreligious have begun
painting themselves as a persecuted minority.

J.Young. I am an 73 yr old atheist living in southern Cal. I think
a good % of us atheist in S.Cal tend to get somewhat complacent about
atheism. The reason being is because here we very seldom encounter any
serious problems from believers. However I know that there are other parts
of the country where that could change instantly. Especially some southern
and Midwestern states. And of course there are all the small towns in every
state that could give you problems if they find out you are an atheist,
especially if they fine you are an atheist activist. St John the

I'm curious to learn just what you think you know about how we atheists are
treated here in the South, for example (I live in North Carolina). Are you
speaking from any 1st hand experience, repeating what some editorialists
have had to say or what? And while you're at it, perhaps you may care to
tell me what an "atheist activist" is.

Even if I am there at the same time, I feel like they should go meet at

done that. They should not go to the coffee shop to have a meeting unless

religion, or national origin.
(b) Each of the following establishments which serves the public is a place

transient guests, other than an establishment located within a building
which contains not more than five rooms for rent or hire and which is
actually occupied by the proprietor of such establishment as his residence;

the premises of which is physically located any such covered establishment,

Why not? It's a buisness. That is, a service you are providing, why
should a gov't intervene with that, it not like it's a public library
or something, it's a private establishemnt, what if I wen't to some big

to claim discrimination? I thought it was the same in the USA, well

The point being that if she does this sort of thing, she will also have the

But I take your point.
Libertarians, however, would see it differently, and go with what I said in

They are private business, but they are also places of public access (after
all, it would be hard for a shop to be remain open without people entering
them). It is (and rightly so) illegal for a shop owner (in the US) to deny
patronage to people based on, for example, race, ethnicity or religion. A
shop owner may, however, deny patronage to individuals who pester other
customers, start fights, cause damage in the shop, or other relevant
reasons.

Tell that to all the lunch counter owners who were driven out of

I beg your pardon - I was referring to before the law was passed; I thought
you were referring to successful boycotss, such as the Montgomery Bus
Boycott.
You are correct.

For one thing, a business owner should be entitled to do whatever the
heck she wants with HER business;so people should quit whining.
Even excluding people based on skin color?
Yes.
But, oops, that makes me a racist, despite the fact that I
would never do it.
Supporting racial discrimination makes you a racist.
What makes you think he supports something, just because he says someone has
a right to do it?
Wonderful logic it is, Susan.
