"suspected nuclear weapons program" is a neocon codeword for "we want

To be fair, Bush would not rule out military action against numerous
countries. That doesn't mean they're necessarily plotting war.
That said, they are capable of pretty much anything...

Shrub funnels $65 million to influence the Ukranian election, yet
does nothing to support the progressive movement in the Iranian
election, letting their fledgeling democracy slide backward. Now
he's looking for an excuse to invade Iran and overthrow another
government heading toward democracy.
Between Iran and the US interference in Venezuela, it's clear
Shrub has no interest in promoting democracy, but instead wants
to appoint friendly dictatorships, most recently Afghanistan and
Iraq. (Anyone who thinks both are "democracies" has no clue.)

As a matter of interest, when did he say this?

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so
long as I'm the dictator." ‹Washington, D.C., Dec. 19, 2000
He also said, "When I was waiting in that school to go into the
classroom, I was watching the television and when I saw that jumbo jet
fly into the World Trade Center, I thought to myself, ŒWow, there's one
really bad pilot.¹²
But he got re-elected.
Compare that to, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live
in infamy. The United States Of America was suddenly and deliberately
attacked by Naval and Air Forces of the Empire of Japan. It is obvious
that planning the attack began many weeks ago, during the intervening
time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the
United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued
peace. The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe
damage to American military forces, I regret to tell you that over
three thousand American lives have been lost. No matter how long it may
take us to over come this pre-meditated invasion, the American people
in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. Because
of this unprovoked, dastardly attack by Japan, I ask that the congress
declare a state of War. " - President Franklin D. Roosevelt

Perhaps. But sometimes humor reveals darker currents. Why *that*
particular point? Why *that* particular circumstance? Why would he
choose to characterize the disagreement as if it were a choice
between democracy and dictatorship?
I think that's revealing.
I find that Bush exhibits many, well, anti-democratic tendencies.
He's legendary for his secretiveness, Cheney too. The 'Energy
Taskforce,' for example. He and his administration seem fairly
impervious to contradictory evidence. WMD in Iraq, the greenhouse
gasses flap in the EPA report, stemcell research, the need for some
sort of plan for post-invasion Iraq beyond the pitiful failure that
the DoD came up with. In each case there were dissenting voices,
some of them extremely prominent and many of them in the majority
(stemcell, greenhouse gasses) which the administration simply
ignored, choosing instead to listen to voices in the minority as if
they were authoritative or mischaracterizing the evidence as being
more equivocal than it really is.

choose to characterize the disagreement as if it were a choice
between democracy and dictatorship?

I don't know, and no one else knows either.

I think that's revealing.

Well, we are all entitled to believe what we want, that is part of what
makes this country so great.
We have the freedom to choose and believe what we want and voice our
opinion.

Well, the way I look at it is like this. Right or wrong, Bush leads by what
he thinks is right.
He doesn't waiver too often, he is pretty stern on some issues.
I am not going to pretend Bush is perfect. Personally, between him and Kerry
I think Bush
is the better person, not the best person. I have questioned Bush before,
but like anyone else
I am only limited to what we hear on television and I will form my own
opinions.
One of the things I admire about Bush is something that happened on his trip
to England a few years ago.
There were thousands of protesters, screaming anti-Bush slogans, carrying
signs, and so forth.
Bush's motorcade rode by them and the reporter that was riding with him said
Bush smiled and said something like,
"Just a few months ago the people in Iraq couldn't voice their opinion, now
they can. This is a wonderful sight".
Another thing I like about Bush, the reporter that broke the story that he
was arrested in 1979 for driving under the influence.
He reported to an interview the very next day as scheduled. Most would
think he would be mad for that story leaking out.
The reporter that broke it was there. Bush nicknamed him camarón, which
means shrimp in spanish. Bush walked up to him,
smiled and rubbed the back of his head and told him, "Good job on the
story", and walked away.
Those are qualities I do like, he didn't get all pissed and try to take
revenge.
I think Bush accepts things for what they are, I think he is a very genuine
person at times. Sure, he has made mistakes. No one
is perfect, and yes he should be accountable for his mistakes.
I think back though on his comment about the protesters in England, and we
should be happy that we do live in a country where
we are free to express our opinion. As long as we do it without harming
others or causing a public disturbance.

Who was joking. Am I the only one who took Bush seriously when he

As a matter of interest, when did he say this?

Thanks!

Now, how about doing something that they are not doing. They are taking his
quote way out of context, it was a joke about the top leaders in the
democratic party.

GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENT-ELECT: I told all four that there
were going to be some times where we don't agree with each other. But that's
OK. If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so
long as I'm the dictator.

He certainly didn't mean it, like they want you to think. But, hey, if you
want to believe it...that is up to you. Just know that they are taking his
quote out of context.

I thought you didn't agree with "out of context."

Not that it was taken out of context anyway.

Either. But I meant Osprey, there.
