Bad News For Liberals: High Schoolers Are Pro-Life |
http://wafflinganglican.blogspot.com/2006/01/high-schoolers-are-pro-life.html
High Schoolers are Pro-Life
A new national poll finds high school seniors take a pro-life position
on abortion saying it's morally wrong and supporting legislative
proposals that would limit abortions and help women find alternatives.
The poll also found 72 percent of females in the class of 2006 would
not consider an abortion if they became pregnant.
[...] When asked, some 67 percent of high school seniors said abortion
is either always (23%) or usually (44%) morally wrong. Just 31 percent
said it was a morally correct decision.
How can one find this surprising? These kids are not stupid; they know
that their parents could have offed them for no greater reason than
personal expedience with the full approval of the law and society. A
staggering number of their potential classmates simply aren't there;
they were disposed of as medical waste. Do we think they don't know
that?
Slightly less than half of the teens polled said abortions should be
allowed when a woman is under 18 and unmarried or when the baby will
have a serious birth defect. Just 40 percent said abortions should be
allowed for poor women and only 29 percent said abortions should be
allowed when a woman doesn't want more children.
Some 72 percent of teen girls say they would not consider an abortion
and, of all high school seniors, just 13 percent would counsel a
pregnant friend to consider an abortion. Some 54 percent of seniors say
they would suggest adoption and 26 percent say they would encourage a
pregnant friend to keep her baby.
Meanwhile, 69 percent of the male teens surveyed said they would not
want their partner to consider an abortion.
In other words, they still have some ideals and standards and haven't
been hooked by the temptations of individual autonomy, greed, and
expedience.
[...] On whether abortions should be legal or illegal, the poll find
females were slightly more inclined to oppose legal abortions. White
teens were more pro-life than blacks, which contradicts polls of adults
on the issue.
This seems to back up what I've always believed to be true. The
primary purpose of abortion is to get guys off the hook. When a woman
is convinced that her body is exclusively her own, that a woman needs a
man like a fish needs a bicycle, and that she can kill her child to
advance her career, the real benefactors are the young men who no
longer have to bite the bullet and provide support for their kids. The
Wilt Chamberlains of the world can bed 20,000 women and never have to
be fathers.
Evangelical Christians were much more likely to oppose abortion than
teens from Catholic of mainline Protestant backgrounds. High school
seniors with non-Christian religious views were overwhelmingly in favor
of abortions.
Hence the big push to remove religion from kids when they get to the
university. (Don't tell me the agenda doesn't exist - I've
worked at one for 26 years. I've heard it.) In the USA,
"non-Christian religious views" pretty much means atheists,
agnostics, and New Agers. There aren't that many practicing, orthodox
Hindus out there. Dechristianizing the kids is the surest way to
convert them from pro-life to pro-choice, and abortion-on-demand is the
defining political goal for the secularists.
What, after all, does Satan really want? Does he care whether the USA
stands or falls, or what economic system we use? Does he give a rat's
rear end about social security reform? What he wants is to dim that
spark of God-light within us, until we walk gently, smiling , polite,
and utterly clueless, straight into the gates of Hell. He comes as an
angel of light, not as a ravener. What better tool does he have than to
pervert our ideas of human love by decoupling them from the human
product of that love. "Love" that produces inward gratification
without bearing external fruit is not the love of God.
[...] According to the poll two-thirds of high school seniors would
require parental consent before a girl under 18 could get an abortion.
The children themselves know that there are things they are not ready
for; that they are not just miniature adults with acne. When will the
supposed adults of our society figure that out.
Sociology students at Hamilton College, in conjunction with the Zogby
International polling firm, surveyed 1,000 high school seniors by phone
and the survey has a 3 percent margin of error.

They also take virginity pledges. Then they "screw up" and very often
discover that abortion isn't quite as "morally wrong" as they originally
thought.

Exactly. I can certainly relate to that. I was Pro-Life until I actually
became pregnant myself and took the time and effort to become really
informed about foetal development, pregnancy related illnesses and risks of
child-birth. Then I ended up questioning myself just exactly what it was
that got me into this sentimental emotional crap that had me believing an
embryo was a thinking feeling human being! I learned it wasn't! Choosing
an abortion is o.k! There's nothing to get all mushy and sentimental about,
nor is it necessary to feel guilty about choosing abortion. The best thing
that ever happened to me was that I actually learned something about
reproduction above and beyond those grainy black/white films I was shown at
school.
I really think that a poll should be taken of women who had been pregnant
and who had actually given birth. As a person who's been there and done
that, I would find it unconscionable to deny women the choice to abort or
continue with the pregnancy. Polling naive teenagers is rather pointless.
They're not fully and adequately informed about the subject. Teenagers tend
to be overly emotional and sentimental anyway. They're also not often very
rational...raging horomones and all that. ;-)

Teaching kids to avoid the situation

Not caring and just letting them get into the situation that may cause
their wanting to get an abortion.
Option 3: Realizing that most of them WILL get into the situation
where they could become pregnant, and give them the honest and complete
information that they need to minimize the risk of pregnancy and
catching STDs. Things like the facts about condoms, birth control,
other contraceptives, morning after pills, RU 486, and other similar
information.
If you do not give them the information to reduce the risk of
pregnancy, then you are effectively encouraging them to get abortions
when they do become pregnant.

It worked 100% of the time for those that actually practiced it.
In The Gospel According To John:10:10:
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have
it more abundantly."
What part of this do you not understand?
The whole thing. I never could figure out those wacko phrases that can
mean anything you want them to mean.

High Schoolers are Pro-Life . . .
until they get pregnant.
So why are they getting pregnant?
Which is better..
Teaching kids to avoid the situation or Not caring and just letting
them
get into the situation that may cause their wanting to get an abortion.
Don't forget abstinence. It too, should be included in teaching kids the
honest and complete truth.
It should be taught that it's about as effective as no contraceptives at
all.
That attitude of "abstinence" was what we were taught back in the late
'60s,
and look how well *that* worked.
All I am saying is abstinence should be included as well as other birth

What part of this do you not understand?
The whole thing. I never could figure out those wacko phrases that can
mean anything you want them to mean.
It means exactly what it says. It is not ambiguous at all.
As I have said elsewhere:
The one greatest underlying principle in Christianity is
that "God" was supposed to have sent one good, "sinless" soul into a
world dominated by "Satan" - to be killed by the forces of evil . . .
as the ultimate sacrifice.
The meaning of this sacrifice is crystal clear: The killing
of this one innocent soul justifies the saving of the guilty. It is a
reconciliation of the two opposing forces of the universe . . . a
balance, and even a mathematical equation, after a fashion.
But it is more than all of that. It is an act of pure love.
As the story goes, "God" recognizes the fact that man is
incapable, on his own, and through any amount of effort, to "earn"
their way into "Heaven", because no one on Earth has the ability to
follow the whole "Law". So he sacrifices his, "Only Begotten Son" in
order to "fulfill" the "Law", and thereby gives us "all" a pass.
So in the verse above, Jesus refers to the fact that the
coming of the Christ fulfilled the Law of Moses, and people were now
free to live without the yoke of religious rules and practices which
had been stifling their ability to live richer lives . . . and that
they were now free of this burden, and only subject to the various
civil laws of the state where they lived.
But the people of that time (as well as many today) thought he
was crazy, and believed he was attempting to either steal, or destroy
the very thing that they believed had kept them in God's good graces.
What causes all the fuss is when these types of people, even now,
still insist that Old Testament Law must be strictly adhered to.
( Abortion remains a complex issue, though, IMNSHO.)

The Bible is merely a group of people trying to control others.
The idea that "God" had anything to do with it is unsupported.

Why would he do that?
Well, He wouldn't, of course. There's no such thing as the xian concept
of "Satan", the early church made it up to keep the masses in line.
"Obey as you're told and you'll get a reward in the world to come,
disobey and you get eternal punishment. Constantine knew what he was
doing for sure. The badly translated word "satan" (shin tet nun)
translates to English as "hinderer". Hashem (g-d is a job title, not a
name) gave humans the gift of free will and charged "Satan" with the
task of offering options to humanity so that we can exercise our free
will. One can't make a choice if one doesn't know the options. Hashem
doesn't punish people who exercise the gift he gave us.

David's got your fat ***** nailed to the wall, in this instance.
Naturally you are going to jump in bed with him. But what sane person
goes
around talking about other peoples families and bringing them into the
conversation?
From the one who claimed I have no family.
You don't, no one wants you.
My wife and I have four children, all four wanted, all four loved. Do
you
have a problem with that?
I certainly don't. I just find it hypocritical that you preach
abstinence when you don't practice it.
I find it hypocritical when you preach about liberals supposably being
honest when you are one of the biggest liberal liars out there.

Option 3: Realizing that most of them WILL get into the situation
where they could become pregnant, and give them the honest and
complete
information that they need to minimize the risk of pregnancy and
catching STDs. Things like the facts about condoms, birth

other contraceptives, morning after pills, RU 486, and other

If you do not give them the information to reduce the risk of
pregnancy, then you are effectively encouraging them to get
abortions
when they do become pregnant.
Don't forget abstinence. It too, should be included in teaching kids
the
honest and complete truth.
From the guy who recently had an "unplanned," as you call it, child.
Do you like making a fool out of yourself? Or does it come naturally?
