Hi all,
I just read a really disturbing article on health.dailynewscentral.com
As a strong believer in abortion, reading that a recent stugy shows
that many babies have been born alive at 18 weeks and lived for a 5
minutes, half an hour, or up to four and half horus in one case,
disturbs me with a heart beat and some with regular breathing. In the
northwest United Kingdom there were 31 cases of babies under 22 weeks
surviving terminations in the last year. The article also talks about
how after 22 weeks feticide is deemed necessary during an abortion,
while still in the womb to prevent these five mintutes or half an hour
of life. I don't know what to do with this information. I had a
strong emotional visceral reaction to it. Yet, I don't see how it
would be possible to tell women that they couldn't have an abortion
after 18 weeks. I don't know what to think.

The article you linked to is from a general news source, and I have
strong reason to believe that the writer did not get the correct facts.
The article mentions a study by published in the British Journal of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, but the link does not take us to the study.
There is no way to verify the true content of the study without paging
through the tables of contents of several editions of BJOG.
At any rate, mortality rates for premature neonates ramp up very
sharply at 24 weeks, and there is no chance that a preemie born at 22
weeks or earlier could survive more than about an hour. An 18-week
fetus could not live more than a few minutes. This is because of
insufficient lung development, and there is nothing we can do to change
this sad fact of life.
Premature delivery != abortion.
