Economy has been moving in the wrong direction |
As usual, Osprey has been shooting his mouth off about things he knows
nothing about. He hopes to claim the economy is, somehow, doing as
well under Bush as Clinton. (He used to claim it is better under Bush,
but even HE knows that will never sell at this point.)
According to public opinion polls, most Americans feel the U.S. economy
has been moving in the wrong direction. Indeed, an analysis of several
important economic indicators shows they're right.
Rather than accepting some Right Wing hated filled guards opinion,
consider the opinions of economists Robert D. Atkinson and Julie Hutto.
As they put it: "In apples-to-apples comparisons of annualized data,
these indicators of the country's economic well-being show mostly
negative change during President George W. Bush's administration,
compared to mostly positive change during President Bill Clinton's
administration."

of the federal income tax....
So? What are you pretending that this means?
You want the rich to have all their income taken
away from them? Is that it?
Seeing how, historically, the rich & corporations
have quite a low tax rate, if their percentage of
tax revenues has increased that can ONLY mean
that their incomes have increased FAR MORE.
Get it?
We're nowhere near historical highes for the top
income brackets.
Today's top income tax bracket is at about 40%
of its peak, seen before JFK signed a tax cut
into effect back in the 1960s, and it's a full 50%
of the top bracket when Reagan took office.
The ONLY WAY that the rich can be paying a
larger percentage of the income tax revenue is
by making *Far* more money than they were
30 & 40 years ago.
Oops. I left out something.
The only way the rich could be paying a greater
percentage of the income tax revenue is if they
are making MORE and everybody else IS NOT.
Here's something for you to chew on:
| Not only are income taxes at historically low levels

Gee, and the rich don't pay the payroll taxes...

It means the rich pay more income tax than you do.
Why is that so hard?
You want the rich to have all their income taken
away from them? Is that it?
Why would anyone want that?
Seeing how, historically, the rich & corporations

that their incomes have increased FAR MORE.
I'm sorry. You seem to be unaware that the tax
rates are higher the higher your income. Get it?
Get it?
I'm beginning to get the idea that somebody has no
idea what's going on.
We're nowhere near historical highes for the top
income brackets.
So fucking what? That is indeed true. The historical
highs were during WW2, and they have been coming
down from that point for a long time. Of course, in
addition to draconian tax rates, they also added loopholes,
so the wealthy would funnel their money in the specific
directions.
Today's top income tax bracket is at about 40%
of its peak, seen before JFK signed a tax cut
into effect back in the 1960s, and it's a full 50%

No. Another way is that there are far more rich
people than there used to be. And that is true
as well.
Oops. I left out something.
The only way the rich could be paying a greater
percentage of the income tax revenue is if they
are making MORE and everybody else IS NOT.
The working poor pay a negative tax rate. And that
began with Reagan. Lower incomes are taxes at a
far lower rate. So what you say is not true at all.
There is more wealth to tax. That much is true.
Here's something for you to chew on:

Payroll taxes are a part of income taxes as well,
obviously.

Actually no. As you're income gets higher your tax rate tends to go
down because more of your income comes from tax-exempt or reduced-tax

Ahem. Nevermore has already proven his claim true. How do you
pay capital gains? As part of your income tax return.
Except that isn't what we were talking about.
Actually, it was. Nevermore was pointing out that the richest pay
the most income taxes. You claimed that they made out on capital
gains. Nevermore pointed out that capital gains is a subset of income
taxes.
He never said subset. He equated it to simple income. The rewrite is
yours.
Let's rewind the thread back to the relevant scene.
nevermore: So, since Barnes can't refute what I posted, he just blusters
and
fumes.... the fact is that the richest 5% pay about 50% of the
federal income tax.... That Barnes doesn't know that is proof of his
ignorance.
David W. Barnes: That is income tax, idiot. We make out on capital gains.
So I was distinguishing between income tax and capital gains.
nevermore: <ROTFLMAO> Barnes obviously doesn't know what he's talking
about...
First of all, obviously rich people pay way more capital gains tax
than poor people,
Since the poor don't invest.
and secondly, capital gains tax is part of the
income tax...
Which is *****.
Barnes is not only *not* a lawyer, he's a high school
dropout....
So we see nevermore inventing his own reality.
"Capital gains tax is part of the income tax" is semantically equivalent
to "capital gains tax is a subset of income taxes". That's my take.
Good for you. Now what?
I don't blame you for wanting to rewrite the history of this
thread though. It's a sad history. A merry 2+2=5 to you, Mr.
Revisionism.
The next thing you know you will be claiming Bush never said we were
looking for WMD's.
The next thing you know you will be flinging arbitrary red-herrings into
the ring just to cover up the smell of your defeat.
I always know I'm winning when they other side is declaring defeat with
any evidence whatsoever.
I guess kissing Nevermore's ***** isn't working for you.

No, he said that cap gains were income taxes. Nothing about a subset

Therefore
capital gains is a part of income tax, and is therefore a part of the
50% of all income tax that is paid by the top 5% of wage-earners.

I take it this Osprey creature is your version of "nevermore" here
(aka Parkie, aka Ace, aka Steve Canyon, aka Henny and quite a few

apartment complexes and 300 sports coats, but who thinks cap gains
taxes are just a part of income tax.
Ahem. Nevermore has already proven his claim true. How do you
pay capital gains? As part of your income tax return.
Except that isn't what we were talking about.
Actually, it was. Nevermore was pointing out that the richest pay
the most income taxes. You claimed that they made out on capital
gains. Nevermore pointed out that capital gains is a subset of income
taxes. I don't blame you for wanting to rewrite the history of this
thread though. It's a sad history. A merry 2+2=5 to you, Mr.
Revisionism.
No, he said that cap gains were income taxes. Nothing about a subset
(which they aren't).
I forgot to say that of course they are. Capital gains is a kind of income.
Therefore the tax on capital gains is a tax on income. Like duh.

Jamieson, obviously never had any cap gains to report, because
<LOL> line 13 on the 1040 form, under income, as shown below, is clearly where
you report your capital gains.

A lot of people have pointed that out to him, that they don't
believe
for one moment he is a lawyer.
The gutless ***** continues to "ignore" me. LOL!!
I take it this Osprey creature is your version of "nevermore" here
(aka Parkie, aka Ace, aka Steve Canyon, aka Henny and quite a few
other names). Henny claims to be a multimillionaire with yachts and
apartment complexes and 300 sports coats, but who thinks cap gains
taxes are just a part of income tax.
No, he said "capital gains are a part of the income tax," which is
semantically equivelent to my rendition but substantially different
from your rendition.
Except, of course, for the fact that cap gains are not a part of the
income tax.
You keep forgetting that.
Capital gains are indeed part of the income tax... reported right
there on line 13 of form 1040.
http://www.1040.com/new1040/pdfs/2004/Federal/Forms/f1040%5B1%5D.pdf
Of course Jamieson always files the EZ form, you know the one that
you used for your kids when they had jobs after school, so he
shouldn't be expected to know that.

If Nevermore tries paying cap gains with a 1040, he'll be in jail soon

Funny. I though a big rich guy like him could afford a tax accountant.
It's obvious he isn't smart enough to do his own taxes.

you report your capital gains.
