FACT: Fetus Feels No Pain |
Oops, another Pro-Rapist Christian lie goes down in flames.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4905892.stm
Foetuses cannot feel pain because it requires mental development that
only occurs outside the womb, says a report in the British Medical
Journal.
Dr Stuart Derbyshire, of the University of Birmingham, said a baby's
actions and relationships with carers enabled it to process the
subjectivity of pain.
Pro-life groups say foetuses respond to stimuli from 20 weeks.
The US is considering legislation to make doctors tell women seeking
an abortion it will cause the foetus pain
It is also being suggested that, if the pregnancy is over 22 weeks,
foetuses should be given pain-relieving drugs.
Dr Derbyshire, who is linked to pro-choice groups, said there were
various stages of a foetus' gestation at which certain parts of the
body's pain "alarm system" developed.
He concludes that pathways in the brain needed to process pain
responses and hormonal stress responses are in place by 26 weeks.
But he says the crucial factor is the environmental difference between
the womb - where the placenta provides a chemical environment to
encourage the foetus to sleep - and that of a newborn baby, who is
exposed to a wide range of stimuli and environments.
'Unnecessary' procedures
"Pain is something that comes from our experiences and develops due to
stimulation and human interaction.
"It involves concepts such as location, feelings of unpleasantness and
having the sensation of pain.
"Pain becomes possible because of a psychological development that
begins at birth when the baby is separated from the protected
atmosphere of the womb and is stimulated into wakeful activity."
Dr Derbyshire said whether or not foetuses felt pain did not affect
the abortion debate because it did not change the moral viewpoints of
the pro-choice and pro-life lobby, or the legality of terminations.
But he said: "Avoiding a discussion of foetal pain with women
requesting abortions is not misguided paternalism but a sound policy
based on good evidence that foetuses cannot experience pain."
And he said giving foetuses painkilling drugs - which would have to be
given through the placenta - involved procedures which may expose the
woman to unnecessary risks and distress.
But Anna Pringle, a spokeswoman for the pro-life charity Life, said:
"This complex debate has been ongoing for a long time.
"Of course, if the unborn child can feel pain - as has been suggested
by other research - then it makes abortion all the more horrifying.
"What we know for certain is that by the age of 20 weeks unborn
children can respond to external aural stimuli such as music and
conversation, and the 4-D ultrasound techniques used by Professor
Stuart Campbell have shown that a child also responds to physical
stimuli."
But she agreed that the issue of whether foetuses felt pain was
irrelevant to the abortion debate.
"A human person is a human person, and as such has the right to life,
which is quite literally fundamental to all other rights."

In article <deel42ta5v56t7k3l86i4rscm5eql2ra6p@4ax.com>,
eacmole@/*AWOLBUSH*/mail.com says...
Pro-life groups say foetuses respond to stimuli from 20 weeks.
Even if they were right, over 99% of all abortion occur before the 20th
week.
The US is considering legislation to make doctors tell women seeking
an abortion it will cause the foetus pain
There have been multiple studies before this oen that indicate that the
fetus has not yet established connections in regions fo the brain needed
to process pain. In any event, the number of women having abortions
after the 20th week is miniscule.
It is also being suggested that, if the pregnancy is over 22 weeks,
foetuses should be given pain-relieving drugs.
The mother is given pain relief drugs and these necessarily end up in the
system of the fetus as well. Considering its small size in comparison to
the mother, the dosage would be many times higher for the fetus. Of
course, that's irrelevant, since it wouldn't feel the pain anyway. But
it's not clear that separate dosing would be necessary.
"A human person
Perhaps, but a fetus is not a human person by any honest definition.
It's brain is insufficient developed for the higher consciousness
required to maintain *personality* or even to generate an image of the
self. Therefore it cannot be a person. Other standard definitions of
personhood involve being able to formulate and/or carry out intentions,
for which there is no evidence of the fetus being capable. Until late in
the second trimester it is not even capable, in principle, of surviving
without the life support of the womb.
is a human person, and as such has the right to life,
Incorrect. A right is something earned by participation in a society or
government and is granted in exchange for obedience to group rules and
regulated bounds of conduct. A fetus cannot be a member of a community
because it does not even function outside its mother's body.
which is quite literally fundamental to all other rights."
The rights of the mother trump the rights of the fetus until it is
technically capable of viability. Even afterward, the parents are the
legal agents of the child, making all medical decisions for it, including
medical decisions which might endanger the life of the child. A child is
not given veto authority over its parents when getting a heart transplant
or any other medical operation. This is the case even after its born.
How then can these fools attempt to argue that a fetus has rights which
even born children are not granted by society?

um quibbler...
i'm not saying I disagree with you on most of your points. 99% of
abortions occure when the feotus is still little more than a bundle of
cells, there would be no brain function so no pain.
I don't think however you should argue that a person is defined by or
the right of any person to live needs to be "earned by participation in
a society or government" or is "granted" by anyone. That's like saying
that if you found someone in the wilderness who had never had contact
or 'participated' with another person doesn't have a right to live. Or
that anyone who disagrees with "group rules and regulated bounds of
conduct" or acts against them also has no right to live.
I simply think something has to live before it is a person and has the
right to continue living and that a feotus without brain function is
alive.
(please no name calling even if you do disagree it doesn't proove
anything, and no I don't think I am definately correct - I base my
judgements on the best knowledge I have been able to aquire)
Even afterward, the parents are the
legal agents of the child, making all medical decisions for it, including
medical decisions which might endanger the life of the child. A child is
not given veto authority over its parents when getting a heart transplant
or any other medical operation
oh, and I think you will find that parental guardianship is there to
protect children, parents are able to over-rule their children's
decisions because it is believed their choices will better informed
they cannot endanger their children for no reason. Parents, like
doctors, may be able to make decissions that are risky but only if the
benifit way outways the risk and it is the best chance to help the
child. NO ONE has the ability to legally put someone at risk for no
good reason or to take away anothers right to live - once they are
alive in the first place.

There is no natural law that says we have the right to life. Such
"rights" are a human invention that we bestow upon each other.
The question is do we have any good reason to bestow such rights
upon an embryo or foetus? I am not aware of any. Are you?

A Life in the Womb
MONTH ONE
Mommy, I am only 8 inches long, but I have all my organs. I love the sound of
your voice. Every time I hear it, I wave my arms and legs. The sound of your
heartbeat is my favorite lullaby.
MONTH TWO
Mommy, today I learned how to suck my thumb. If you could see me, you could
definitely tell that I am a baby. I’m not big enough to survive outside my home
though. It is so nice and warm in here.
MONTH THREE
You know what mommy, I’m a boy!! I hope that makes you happy. I always want
you to be happy. I don’t like it when you cry. You sound so sad. It makes me
sad too, and I cry with you even though you can’t hear me.
MONTH FOUR
Mommy, my hair is starting to grow. It is very short and fine, but I will have
a lot of it. I spend a lot of my time exercising. I can turn my head and curl
my fingers and toes, and stretch my arms and legs. I am becoming quite good at
it, too.
MONTH FIVE
You went to the doctor today. Mommy, he lied to you. He said that I’m not a
baby. I AM a baby, Mommy, your baby. I think and feel. Mommy, what’s
abortion?
MONTH SIX
I can hear that doctor again. I don’t like him. He seems cold and heartless.
Something is intruding into my home. The doctor called it a needle. Mommy what
it is? It burns. Please make him stop! I can’t get away from it! Mommy! HELP
me!
MONTH SEVEN
Mommy, I am okay now. I am in Jesus’ arms. He is holding me. He told me about
abortion. Why didn’t you want me Mommy?
Every abortion is just…. . one more heart that was stopped. Two more eyes that
will never see. Two more hands that will never touch. Two more legs that will
never run. One more mouth that will never speak.
4,250 of these happen a day, PLEASE HELP STOP THE MASSACRE!

A Life in the Womb
MONTH ONE
Mommy, I am only 8 inches long, but I have all my organs. I love the
sound of your voice. Every time I hear it, I wave my arms and legs.
The sound of your heartbeat is my favorite lullaby.
First Month
Fertilization, descent of ovum from tube to uterus. Early cell division
and formation of embryonic disc from which new organism will develop. Early
formation of three layers of cells: (1) the ectoderm, from which sense
organs and nervous system will develop (2) the mesoderm, from which
circulatory, skeletal and muscular systems will develop (3) the endoderm,
from which digestive and some glandular systems will develop. Special layer
of cells formed in the uterus which will become the placenta and through
which nutritive substances will be carried to the new organism and waste
products carried away. Special layer of cells forms the amnion or
water-sac, which will surround the developing embryo except at umbilical
cord. Heart tube forms and begins to pulsate and force blood to circulate
through blood vessels in embryonic disc. Nervous system begins to arise,
first in form of neural groove. Development of intestinal tract, lungs,
liver and kidneys begins. By end of one month, the embryo is about
one-fourth inch long, curled into a crescent, with small nubbins on sides of
body indicating incipient arms and legs.
Hmmm... 1/4 inch long... Not 8 inches... There seems to be a lot of
discrepancies between what you post, and the actual facts.
MONTH TWO
Mommy, today I learned how to suck my thumb. If you could see me,
you could definitely tell that I am a baby. I'm not big enough to
survive outside my home though. It is so nice and warm in here.
Second Month
Embryo increases in size to about 1½ inches. Bones and muscle begin to
round out contours of body. Face and neck develop and begin to give
features a human appearance. Forehead very prominent, reflecting precocious
development of brain in comparison to rest of body. Limb buds elongate.
Muscles and cartilage develop. Sex organs begin to form.
Hmmmm... Limb buds, no fingers or thumbs to suck yet. Embryo most
resembles a fish at this point.
MONTH THREE
You know what mommy, I'm a boy!! I hope that makes you happy. I
always want you to be happy. I don't like it when you cry. You
sound so sad. It makes me sad too, and I cry with you even though
you can't hear me.
Third Month
Beginning of fetal period. Sexual differentiation continues, with male
sexual organs showing more rapid development and the female remaining more
neutral. buds for all 20 temporary teeth laid down. Vocal cords appear;
digestive system shows activity. Stomach cells begin to secrete fluid;
liver pours bile into intestine. Kidneys begin functioning, with urine
gradually seeping into amniotic fluid. Other waste products passed through
placenta into mother's blood. Bones and muscles continue development, and
by end of third month spontaneous movements of arms, legs, shoulders and
fingers are possible.
Hmmm... Most doctors will tell you that it's almost impossible to
differentiate the sex by using an ultra-sound until about the 18th week, not
the 12th.
MONTH FOUR
Mommy, my hair is starting to grow. It is very short and fine, but I
will have a lot of it. I spend a lot of my time exercising. I can
turn my head and curl my fingers and toes, and stretch my arms and
legs. I am becoming quite good at it, too.
Fourth Month
Lower parts of body show relatively accelerated rate, so that head size
decreases from one-half to one-fourth of body size. Back straightens, hands
and feet are well-formed. Skin appears dark red, owing to coursing of blood
showing through thin skin and wrinkles, owing to absence of underlying fat.
Finger closure is possible. Reflexes become more active as muscular
maturation continues. Fetus begins to stir and so thrust out arms and legs
in movements readily perceived by the mother.
Hmmm... And we finally get to that arm and leg waving that you said occurs
in the first month. Interesting.

Remind you it's still human life in the beginning of growth to about the 22-30th
year at which the body reverses it's growth and proceeds onward to physical
death. Human life begins at conception.

Remind you it's still human life in the beginning of growth to about the
22-30th year at which the body reverses it's growth and proceeds onward to
physical death. Human life begins at conception.
Of course, you're on record as stating that there's such a thing as an
eight-inch human embryo, so why would anyone bother to take you at your word?

No, I didn't make the statement. I copied it. Just to remind you that it's
your funeral for your support of abortion.

Mommy, I am only 8 inches long, but I have all my organs. I love the sound of
your voice. Every time I hear it, I wave my arms and legs. The sound of your
heartbeat is my favorite lullaby.

While I agree that Duke has been snorting too much airplane glue, I disagree
that a foetus cannot feel pain in at least the last trimester, and possibly
some of the second trimester. LOL! 8" long in the first month! At that
rate a woman would be showing by her third week of pregnancy!
