thing to do is to withhold judgement regarding whether or not he

The age of consent, and the age at which a person becomes an adult, are
arbitrary.
Pedophilia comes from the Greek, "ped" = child, "philia" = love for (in
this sense, sexual love). We could use these roots to determine a
LITERAL definition for pedophilia (sexual love for children), but we
are presented with the problem of defining what a "child" is.
I've seen different definitions of pedophilia. The literal definition
is above; there are legal definitions (which might vary by locality)
and probably also psychiatric definitions. One definition indicated
that a pedophile is attracted to "prepubescent" children, one was
broader and included "peripubescent" children which would indicate a
range from prepubescent to just-post-pubescent.
But definitions for pubescent are varied as well. I read in one
definition that when a child stops growing, he is no longer pubescent.
I can only give you my own experience with this, and that is that I
stopped growing vertically at some point in my senior year of high
school, when I was 17. But I had no need to shave daily until probably
my sophomore year in college, when I was 19, which might indicate that
my puberty lasted a longer time than it did for some others (I knew
kids who were shaving daily at 15 or so).
There is a sense in the word that it does not refer to children who
have sexual love for other children in close proximity in age, but to
persons who are significantly older than the children they are
attracted to.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that a 16-year-old, no matter
how physically mature, is not emotionally an adult. It is this
emotional component that is involved in decision making. So how can we
say that any decision he made was an adult decision? When there is
pressure for sex from a man old enough to be that kid's grandfather,
who was a respected, powerful, and long-time member of Congress, we are
looking at a severely unfair situation; Foley went after people who
were vulnerable to his predation. While a 16-year-old has the right to
say "No", if you remember back to 16, it wasn't quite as easy back then
for many of us to say "No" to people in authority. Foley took
advantage of his prestige to prey on children who had no experience in
defense.

Except that that none of the articles I've seen to date mentioned
any messages sent to pages under the age of consent. The sensible
thing to do is to withhold judgement regarding whether or not he
is a pedophile until evidence is presented indicating that.
Otherwise, the proper term to use is "sexual predator" or just plain
"creep" since his attentions were not wanted.
"Pederast" used to be the common word but you don't hear it much anymore.
But I still say "dirty old man" fits best...

away...?? They would say of him... 'He was gay all the time, but he
just "didn't recognize it"! LOL..!! They just can't except the fact
that he came to a crossroads at some point in hiz life and then made a
CHOICE. But since the fact remains that almost all queers 'don't
recognize it' until later in their lives (usually after having some
kind of evil encounter with an older, fully-possessed homosexual), they
must now come up with some kind of fucking excuse, right....??! Hence

Wrong. He's known he's gay for a long time. So have his colleagues.

You don't do much reading, do you?. Most of us realize our attraction
to members of the same sex when we're kids. We tend not to act on it
