Fun Facts About Homosexuals |
FUN FACTS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALS
Homosexuals live filthy, unhealty, dangerous, unhappy, and in many cases,
violent lives.
-On April 25, 2001, the CDC reported that "We are seeing substantial
increases in sexually transmitted diseases among men who have sex with men
in multiple locations across this country." (31, 32).
-Homosexuals are responsible for the "first sexually transmitted outbreak
of typhoid fever" in the history of the United States. This disease is
caused by ingesting human feces (32).
-More than 10% of homosexuals in major U.S. urban areas are infected with
HIV. To this day, they still make up more than 50% of reported AIDS cases
in the United States (30, 31).
-Homosexuals fellate almost 100% of their sexual contacts and ingest semen
from about half of those. Semen contains virtually every germ carried in
the blood stream, so this is about equivalent to ingesting raw human blood
(6).
-One study reports 70% of homosexuals admitting to having sex only one
time with over 50% of their partners (3).
-One study reports that the average homo has between 20 and 106 partners
per year (6). The average heterosexual has 8 partners in a lifetime.
-Sperm readily penetrates the anal wall (which is only one cell thick) and
gains direct access to the blood stream. This causes massive immunological
damage to the body's T- and B-cell defensive systems (14).
-50% of male syphilis is carried by homosexuals as a rectal infection and
can enter through the urethra of another fag during anal sex (7).
-Around 67-80% of homosexuals lick and/or insert their tongues into the
anuses of their partners (called "rimming", anilingus, fecal sex, etc.)
and ingest biologically significant amounts of feces (7), which is the
chief cause of hepatitis and parasitic infections among fags (8 ). This
practice is called the "prime taste treat in sex" in the bestseller The
Joy of Gay Sex.
-33% of homosexuals admit to fisting (inserting the hand, sometimes part
of the arm, into the rectum of his partner) (7).
-Urinating on each other ("golden showers") and torture has doubled among
homosexuals since the 1940s, and fisting has increased astronomically (7).
-17% of homosexuals eat and/or rub the feces of their partners on
themselves (4).
-12% of homosexuals give/receive enemas as part of sexual pleasure (4).
-In one study, the average homosexual fellated somewhere between 20 and
106 men, swallowed 50 seminal discharges, had 72 penile penetrations of
the *****, and ingested feces of 23 different men EVERY YEAR (6).
-Many homosexuals sexual encounters occur while drunk, high on drugs, or
in an orgy setting (7).
-Many homosexuals don't pay heed to warnings of their lifestyles:
"Knowledge of health guidelines was quite high, but this knowledge had no
relation to sexual behavior" (16).
-Activities of homosexuals involve rimming (anilingus), golden showers,
fisting, and using "toys" (21).
-Homosexuals got homosexuality removed from the list of mental illnesses
in the early 70s by storming the annual American Psychiatric Association
(APA) conference on successive years. "Guerrilla theater tactics and more
straight-forward shouting matches characterized their presence" (2). Since
homosexuality has been removed from the APA list of mental illnesses, so
has pedophilia (except when the adult feels "subjective distress") (27).
-Homosexuals account for 3-4% of all gonorrhea cases, 60% of all syphilis
cases, and 17% of all hospital admissions (other than for STDs) in the
United States (5). They make up only 1-2% of the population.
-Homosexuals live unhealthy lifestyles, and have historically accounted
for the bulk of syphilis, gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, the "gay bowel syndrome"
(which attacks the intestinal tract), tuberculosis and cytomegalovirus
(27).
73% of psychiatrists say homosexuals are less happy than the average
person, and of those psychiatrists, 70% say that the unhappiness is NOT
due to social stigmatization (13).
-25-33% of homosexuals and dykes are alcoholics (11).
-Of homosexuals questioned in one study, 43% admitted to 500 or more
partners in a lifetime, 28% admitted to 1000 or more in a lifetime, and of
these people, 79% said that half of those partners were total strangers,
and 70% of those sexual contacts were one night stands (or, as one
homosexual admits in the film "The Castro," one minute stands) (3). Also,
it is a favorite past-time of many homosexuals to go to "cruisy areas" and

-78% of homosexuals are affected by STDs (20).
-Judge John Martaugh, chief magistrate of the New York City Criminal Court
has said, "Homosexuals account for half the murders in large cities" (10).
-Captain William Riddle of the Los Angeles Police says, "30,000 sexually
abused children in Los Angeles were victims of homosexuals" (10).
-50% of suicides can be attributed to homosexuals (10).
-Dr. Daniel Capron, a practicing psychiatrist, says, "Homosexuality by
definition is not healthy and wholesome. The homosexual person, at best,
will be unhappier and more unfulfilled than the sexually normal person"

-It takes approximately $300,000 to take care of each AIDS victim, so
thanks to the promiscuous lifestyle of homosexuals, medical insurance
rates have been skyrocketing for all of us (10).
-One study reports that 90% of homosexuals have engaged in anal sex, and
66% engage in anal sex regularly (6).
-Homosexuals were responsible for spreading AIDS in the United States, and
then raised up violent groups like Act Up and Ground Zero to complain
about it. Even today, homosexuals account for well over 50% of the AIDS
cases in the United States, which is quite a large number considering that
they account for only 1-2% of the population.
-Homosexuals account for a disproportionate number of hepatitis cases:
70-80% in San Francisco, 29% in Denver, 66% in New York City, 56% in
Toronto, 42% in Montreal, and 26% in Melbourne (8). 10% of homosexuals
admit to eating feces and/or drinking contaminated enema water (8).
-29% of homosexuals engage in urine sex ("golden showers") (8).
-37% of homosexuals engage in sadomasochism, which accounts for many
accidental deaths. In San Francisco, classes were held to teach
homosexuals how to not kill their partners during sadomasochism (8).
-In large cities, hospitals are often called on to remove objects from the
rectums of homosexuals. Sometimes, the homosexuals do so much damage that
they have to wear colostomy bags for the rest of their lives (8).
-41% of homosexuals say they have had sex with strangers in public
restrooms, 60% say they have had sex with strangers in bathhouses, and 64%
of these encounters have involved the use of illegal drugs (8).
-Depending on the city, 39-59% of homosexuals are infected with intestinal
parasites like worms, flukes and amoebae, which is common in filthy third
world countries (8).
-The median age of death of homosexuals is 42 (only 9% live past age 65).
This drops to 39 if the cause of death is AIDS. The median age of death of
a married heterosexual man is 75 (8).
-The median age of death of lesbians is 45 (only 24% live past age 65).
The median age of death of a married heterosexual woman is 79 (8).
-Homosexuals are 100 times more likely to be murdered (usually by another
homo) than the average person, 25 times more likely to commit suicide, and
19 times more likely to die in a traffic accident (8).
-21% of lesbians die of murder, suicide or traffic accident, which is at a
rate of 534 times higher than the number of white heterosexual females
aged 25-44 who die of these things (8).
-50% of the calls to a hotline to report "queer bashing" involved domestic
violence (i.e., fags beating up other homosexuals) (18).
-About 50% of the women on death row are lesbians (12).
Homosexuals prey on children.
-33% of homosexuals ADMIT to minor/adult sex (7).
-There is a notable homosexual group, consisting of thousands of members,
known as the North American Man and Boy Love Association ( NAMBLA). (Note:
this web site is sometimes down). This is a child molesting homo group
whose cry is "SEX BEFORE 8 BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE." This group can be seen
marching in most major gay parades across the United States.
-Homosexuals commit more than 33% of all reported child molestations in
the United States, which, assuming homosexuals make up 2% of the
population, means that 1 in 20 homosexuals is a child molestor, while 1 in
490 heterosexuals is a child molestor (19).
-73% of all homosexuals have had sex with boys under 19 years of age (9).
-Many homosexuals admit that they are pedophiles: "The love between men
and boys is at the foundation of homosexuality" (22).
-Because homosexuals can't reproduce naturally, they resort to recruiting
children. Homosexuals can be heard chanting "TEN PERCENT IS NOT ENOUGH,
RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT" in their fag parades. A group called the
"Lesbian Avengers" prides itself on trying to recruit young girls. They
print "WE RECRUIT" on their literature. Some other homosexuals aren't as
overt about this, but rather try to infiltrate society and get into
positions where they will have access to the malleable minds of young
children (e.g., the clergy, teachers, Boy Scout leaders, etc.) (8 ).
The Homosexual Agenda
-The homosexual agenda includes desensitizing the public: "The first order
of business is desensitization of the American public concerning gays and
gay rights.....To desensitize the public is to help it view homosexuality
with indifference instead of with keen emotion. Ideally, we would have
straights register differences in sexual preferences the way they register
different tastes for ice cream or sports games....At least in the
beginning, we are seeking public desensitization and nothing more. We do
not need and cannot expect a full 'appreciation' or 'understanding' of
homosexuality from the average American. You can forget about trying to
persuade the masses that homosexuality is a good thing. But if only you
can get them to think that it is just another thing...then your battle for
legal and social rights is virtually won" (25).
-Part of the homosexual agenda is to get the public to affirm their filthy
lifestyle, as one homosexual admitted in the October 1987 homosexual rally
on Washington: "We are no longer seeking just a right to privacy and a
protection from wrong. We also have a right -- as heterosexual Americans
already have -- to see government and society affirm our lives" (27).
-Part of the homosexual agenda is to turn people from Christianity: "The
teaching that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds and
constraints of marriage is the only acceptable form should be reason
enough for any homosexual to denounce the Christian religion" (1).
-Homosexuals knowingly lied (and still lie) about the 10% figure (i.e.,
homosexuals make up 10% of the population). As Tom Stoddard (formerly of
the Lambda Legal Defense Fund) said, "We used that figure when most gay
people were entirely hidden to try to create an impression of our
numerousness" (17).
The true number of homosexuals
-The Kinsey study of 1948, which homosexuals often cite to say that 10% of
the population is homosexual, actually says that only 4% of the population
is EXCLUSIVELY homosexual. This study involved a disproportionate number
of people who had been in jail for sex crimes (hardly a random sample of
the population). Kinsey also did perverse studies involving young boys and
pedophiles.
-Current research shows that the true percentage of homosexuals is in the
1-2% range (15,23,26,28 ). Consider how small this number is when compared
to most of the numbers above.
Homosexuals aren't discriminated against in employment, so why should they
be a protected class?
-The average yearly income of a homosexual is $55,430.00 (most of which is
disposable because no children to take care of!). The average of the
general population is $32,144.00. The average of blacks is $12,166.00
(24).
-59.6% of homosexuals are college graduates. 18.0% of the general
population are college graduates (24). Too bad they aren't smart enough to
listen to good advice. "Professing themselves to be wise, they became
fools" (Romans 1:22).
-49.0% of homosexuals hold professional/managerial positions. 15.9% of the
general population hold such positions (24). Where's the job
discrimination?

This is in accruate. It should read: some people (including both
homosexuals and hetrosexuals), live filthy, unhealthy, dangersous,
unhappy, and in many cases, violent lives. Most people (again, including
both homosexuals and hetrosexuals) do not. This can be said about any
group one wishes.

Why do you expect him to do that when he ignores straight women
as well? He'll ignore whatever makes his numbers look worse for
his side of the discussion. So he ignores staight women due to
their risk being higher than the risk for straight men, and
he ignores lesbians due to their risk being lower than the risk
for gay men.

(San Francisco, California) An outbreak of syphilis that a year ago
was called an epidemic is getting worse the health department warned
Thursday.
If the current rate of infection continues there will be a 50 percent
increase in the number of cases over 2002. The majority of cases are
among men who have sex with men, the result of unprotected sex and an
indication that a massive spike in the number of cases of HIV/AIDS is
looming. Already the health department is reporting that about
two-thirds of the new infections are in people already infected with
HIV.
"Many people have lost their awareness or appreciation of syphilis as
a health problem," said Dr. Jeffrey Klausner of the San Francisco
Health Department.
Increases in the number of syphilis cases have been recorded
throughout the country, but the situation in the Bay Area is by far
the most serious.
Despite the city's reputation as the gay capital of America many men
who sex with men fail to come out to their doctors and are not tested
for either syphilis or HIV, Klausner said.
Syphilis begins as a sore on the outside of the sexual organs and
develops into a rash. It can be treated with penicillin, but if left
untreated can cause permanent damage to vital organs and result
blindness, deafness, dementia or even death. People with HIV have a
higher than average susceptibility.
The health department recent opened a web site to encourage testing.
City residents can sign up and get a PIN number. They can then go a
clinic and get test using the PIN number as the only means of
identification and get their results online using the PIN number.
In addition AIDS education groups are launching new awareness
campaigns targeting the gay community. But there are concerns that
the people who are ignoring AIDS prevention and safe-sex campaigns
will also ignore syphilis warnings.

Anal sex may lead to rise in AIDS
High levels of unprotected anal sex by men could result in a swarm of
new AIDS and Hepatitis C cases, an Australian report has warned.
A review of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C strategies identified general
complacency within the broad community, which believed HIV was under
control.
The report said this complacency extended to the political arena,
health departments and the non-HIV clinical community.
It identified significant challenges still faced by authorities in
stemming the number of new infections.
They included unacceptably high levels of unprotected anal intercourse
and of gonorrhoea among men having sex with men, and the declining
leadership role of the federal government.
The report's recommendations for a strong focus on harm minimisation
and needle and syringe programs do not reconcile with the government's
tough on drugs policy and lack of support for safe injecting rooms, it
said.
Although there were consistent declines in the number of new HIV
diagnoses in Australia from 1990 to 2000, there were 774 new cases
diagnosed in 2001, an increase of 4.6 per cent on the previous year.
The review panel said there seemed to be an erosion of political
support and some community support for harm reduction approaches.
"The review panel recommends that new approaches to harm reduction,
such as the use of supervised injecting facilities, syringes with
retractable needles and medically prescribed heroin be rigorously
evaluated," the report said.
But federal Health Minister Kay Patterson said the government remained
committed to its tough on drugs strategy, which did not include heroin
injecting rooms or heroin trials.
The report warned that without a massive re-evaluation of current
efforts, there could be a significant rise in the number of HIV and
hepatitis C infections.
"The review received many submissions asserting that government
reticence in relation to the reform of drug law and drug policy is the
most significant factor affecting the transmission of hepatitis C,"
the report said.
"The review is concerned by the growing evidence of the move away from
harm reduction towards a zero tolerance approach to illicit drug use."
Senator Patterson said the government would find new ways to deliver
safe sex messages, increase awareness of sexually transmitted diseases
and get GPs more involved in the management of hepatitis C.
But prevention was the key and that can only be done by a change in
behavior among men who have sex with men
"It is important that people at risk of infection understand that
although treatments are more effective and can prolong life of
HIV-positive people, these treatments are very arduous and have
significant side effects and there is still no vaccine or cure," she
said.

THE EPIDEMIC BEFORE THE EPIDEMIC
Even before the first AIDS cases among homosexual men were diagnosed,
the homosexual community was already in the midst of an epidemic of
STDs. During the 1970s, infection with a STD carried no stigma within
the homosexual community. The ritual of repeated infection and
treatment had become part of the homosexual lifestyle:
Gay men were being washed by tide after tide of increasingly serious
infections. First it was syphilis and gonorrhea. Gay men made up about
80 percent of the 70,000 annual patient visits to the city's VD
clinic. Easy treatment had imbued them with such a cavalier attitude
toward venereal diseases that many gay men saved their waiting-line
numbers, like little tokens of desirability, and the clinic was
considered an easy place to pick up both a shot and a date. Then came
hepatitis A and the enteric parasites, followed by the proliferation
of hepatitis B, a disease that had transformed itself, via the
popularity of anal intercourse, from a blood-borne scourge into a
venereal disease.(Shilts p.39)
SYPHILIS AND GONORRHEA
Sexually transmitted diseases (previously labeled venereal diseases)
are those conditions which can be transmitted by sexual contact.
Before 1970, the two most common STDs were syphilis and gonorrhea.
Left untreated, syphilis can cause birth defects, insanity, and a
number of other conditions. Gonorrhea can cause infertility in women
and men, arthritis, and blindness in children born to an infected
mother. After the efficacy of treatment of early syphilis and
gonorrhea with antibiotics had been established in the 1940s, the
number of cases decreased significantly, but in 1957 the number of
cases began to rise sharply, particularly among those under 25 and
among homosexuals.("Venereal" 1963)
According to J.L. Fluker, a British doctor with considerable
experience treating homosexuals, "A myth was once held that venereal
disease was not transmissible homosexually."(Fluker 1981) However,
during WWII doctors saw a number of cases of homosexually transmitted
gonorrhea and syphilis resulting from anal and oral sex. Gabriel
Rotello, a homosexual author and activist, hypothesizes that before
WWII, STDs were not a major problem among homosexuals in the United
States because during that period homosexual men engaged mainly in
oral sex, and homosexually identified men did not engage primarily in
sex with one another but with non-homosexually identified men. Rotello
contends that the homosexual life-style consisted in large part of
effeminate "fairies" who performed oral sex on the "trade" — sailors
and other masculine men who did not consider themselves homosexual.
After World War II, non-homosexually identified men were less willing
to engage in this kind of activity because they feared being
stigmatized as homosexual, and men who experienced same-sex
attractions began to engage in active and passive sex with one
another. This created a core group of men among whom infections could
be easily spread. The rise of the bathhouses and other sex clubs
facilitated anal sex because anal sex requires more privacy than oral.
Because individual homosexual men engaged in both receptive and
insertive behaviors, infections spread quickly within a core group of
extremely sexually active men. The first men to be diagnosed with AIDS
reported an average of 1,000 sexual partners. Unfortunately, these men
did not restrict their contacts to core group members. Any casual
participant in male homosexual behavior was at risk. Given these
behavioral changes, sexual acts between males became an extremely
effective means for transmitting a number of infectious
agents.(Rotello pp.40-49)
In the 1960s, homosexual men accounted for an increasing percentage of
the increasing number of infections with syphilis and gonorrhea. A
study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology compared
12,201 heterosexual men with 5,324 homosexual men. Both groups were
interviewed during their initial visits to the Denver Metro Health
Clinic during 1977/1978. The homosexual men were significantly more
likely to have gonorrhea (30.31% vs. 19.83%) and early syphilis (1.08%
vs. 0.34%). The authors speculated that "higher rates of gonorrhea and
syphilis result from a larger mean number of sexual contacts, more
potential sites of infection, and more hidden and asymptomatic
disease" among homosexuals. When asked the number of different sexual
partners within the previous 30 days, the homosexual men reported a
mean of 5.5, the heterosexual men a mean of 2.3.(Judson 1980)
In 1977, Raymond Berger reported on the high incidence of asymptomatic
gonorrhea infections at a venereal disease clinic organized by
homosexual men for homosexual men. He advised the "screening of
atypical sites in this population," since homosexual men might have
gonorrhea infections of the throat and ***** as well as the penis.
Among the 1,156 tests given at the clinic for Neisseria gonorrhea, the
organism that causes gonorrhea, 3.5% were positive for pharyngeal,
4.7% for urethral, and 3.9% for anal infection.(Berger 1977)
J.L. Fluker studied the male cases of homosexually acquired STDs at
Charring Cross Hospital (West London Branch) between 1962 and 1971 and
noted "an explosive increase in case load, particularly between
1968-1971."(Fluker 1976) According to clinic records, in 1962 there
were 105 cases of STDs among homosexual men; by 1971 the number had
climbed to 1,773 cases. Fluker reported that male homosexuals had a
high repeat infection rate, "some patients having had 40-59 new
infections over the years in the same clinic."(Fluker 1981) It should
be noted that legislation legalizing homosexual practices between
consenting adults took effect in England in 1968.

Homosexual Circuit Parties Spread STDs By Martha Kleder
The June edition of the American Health Journal has published a study
linking homosexual dance parties to higher rates of sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs).
The study, titled "The Circuit Party Men's Health Survey," concludes
that homosexual "circuit parties" may be contributing to the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases among "gay" and bisexual men.
"Circuit parties" are an increasingly important feature of the
homosexual men's social scene. The parties can be one-, two-, or
three-day extravaganzas. A brief search of "circuit party" Web sites
showed gatherings at Disney's "Gay Days," as well as numerous "gay
pride" rallies across the United States and Canada. Ironically, many
"circuit parties" claim to be fundraisers to benefit AIDS and HIV
prevention efforts.
The events feature dancing, drug use and public sex, with men partying
until the wee hours of the morning. Many men travel the "circuit" and
fly to other cities to attend the dance parties.
"We found extremely high rates of drug use and relatively high rates
of risky sexual behavior," said Gordon Mansergh, a researcher with The
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and lead author of the
study.
Mansergh said the two are apparently connected. Eighty-four percent of
partygoers reported using illegal drugs during "circuit party"
weekends. Drugs included Ecstasy, ketamine or "special K," and crystal
methamphetamine, among others.
Viagra was also used as a recreational drug at these parties. While
legal, researchers said Viagra can be dangerous when mixed with other
party drugs.
The drug use coincides with risky sexual behaviors, with 25 percent of
those surveyed admitting they engage in unprotected sexual contact
during party weekends.
BATHROOM MONITORS NEEDED "There needs to be active involvement by
community members themselves to change the culture," said Mansergh.
The researchers recommend that more "safe-sex" materials be made
available at circuit parties, and that dark places be eliminated and
bathroom monitors be hired to reduce occurrences of public sex.
In 1999, New York City's Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) cancelled its
annual Fire Island Morning Party citing "alarming levels of
recreational drug use."
Still, "gay" activists balk at the study's suggestions, calling
instead for more education.

Peter LaBarbera, senior policy analyst at CFI, who has reported
undercover on the homosexual party scene, questioned the idea of
"reforming" circuit parties.
"Homosexual circuit parties are geared toward easy sex, drinking and
drugs. Rather than tell these overgrown adolescents to stop,
researchers and gay activists try to find ways to make their reckless
encounters 'safe,'" LaBarbera said. "If grown men need 'bathroom
monitors' to protect them from themselves, it's probably a hopeless
situation in terms of health and safety."
Yvette Schnieder, a former lesbian and consultant to the Culture and
Family Institute, told C&F Report, "Homosexuality is an immoral
lifestyle that leads one deeper and deeper into bondage to this form
of sexual sin. If the organizers of these 'gay' circuit parties really
cared about homosexuals, they would not be throwing parties that
encourage homosexual sex."

What does all this have to do with the fact that heterosexuals get
disease also, which was my point. Do really believe that if there were not
any Homosexuals that disease would be eliminated. Haitians communities also
had a high incidence of aids not due to homosexuality, perhaps your next
rant will be that Haitians cause disease. Teenagers also have a
statistically higher than average rate of sexually transmitted disease as
due those on the lower end of the economic scale, a large percentage of whom
are Christians. Why didn't you single out these groups also. Hateful
prejudice perhaps taught by the Bible.

(San Francisco, California) An outbreak of syphilis that a year ago
was called an epidemic is getting worse the health department warned
Thursday.
If the current rate of infection continues there will be a 50 percent
increase in the number of cases over 2002. The majority of cases are
among MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN, the result of unprotected sex and an
indication that a massive spike in the number of cases of HIV/AIDS is
looming. Already the health department is reporting that about
two-thirds of the new infections are in people already infected with
HIV.
"Many people have lost their awareness or appreciation of syphilis as
a health problem," said Dr. Jeffrey Klausner of the San Francisco
Health Department.
Increases in the number of syphilis cases have been recorded
throughout the country, but the situation in the Bay Area is by far
the most serious.
Despite the city's reputation as the gay capital of America many men
who sex with men fail to come out to their doctors and are not tested
for either syphilis or HIV, Klausner said.
Syphilis begins as a sore on the outside of the sexual organs and
develops into a rash. It can be treated with penicillin, but if left
untreated can cause permanent damage to vital organs and result
blindness, deafness, dementia or even death. People with HIV have a
higher than average susceptibility.
The health department recent opened a web site to encourage testing.
City residents can sign up and get a PIN number. They can then go a
clinic and get test using the PIN number as the only means of
identification and get their results online using the PIN number.
In addition AIDS education groups are launching new awareness
campaigns targeting the gay community. But there are concerns that
the people who are ignoring AIDS prevention and safe-sex campaigns
will also ignore syphilis warnings.

Anal sex may lead to rise in AIDS
High levels of unprotected anal sex by men could result in a swarm of
new AIDS and Hepatitis C cases, an Australian report has warned.
A review of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C strategies identified general
complacency within the broad community, which believed HIV was under
control.
The report said this complacency extended to the political arena,
health departments and the non-HIV clinical community.
It identified significant challenges still faced by authorities in
stemming the number of new infections.
They included unacceptably high levels of unprotected anal intercourse
and of gonorrhoea among MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN, and the declining
leadership role of the federal government.
The report's recommendations for a strong focus on harm minimisation
and needle and syringe programs do not reconcile with the government's
tough on drugs policy and lack of support for safe injecting rooms, it
said.
Although there were consistent declines in the number of new HIV
diagnoses in Australia from 1990 to 2000, there were 774 new cases
diagnosed in 2001, an increase of 4.6 per cent on the previous year.
The review panel said there seemed to be an erosion of political
support and some community support for harm reduction approaches.
"The review panel recommends that new approaches to harm reduction,
such as the use of supervised injecting facilities, syringes with
retractable needles and medically prescribed heroin be rigorously
evaluated," the report said.
But federal Health Minister Kay Patterson said the government remained
committed to its tough on drugs strategy, which did not include heroin
injecting rooms or heroin trials.
The report warned that without a massive re-evaluation of current
efforts, there could be a significant rise in the number of HIV and
hepatitis C infections.
"The review received many submissions asserting that government
reticence in relation to the reform of drug law and drug policy is the
most significant factor affecting the transmission of hepatitis C,"
the report said.
"The review is concerned by the growing evidence of the move away from
harm reduction towards a zero tolerance approach to illicit drug use."
Senator Patterson said the government would find new ways to deliver
safe sex messages, increase awareness of sexually transmitted diseases
and get GPs more involved in the management of hepatitis C.
But prevention was the key and that can only be done by a change in
behavior among men who have sex with men
"It is important that people at risk of infection understand that
although treatments are more effective and can prolong life of
HIV-positive people, these treatments are very arduous and have
significant side effects and there is still no vaccine or cure," she
said.
