\'God is Love,\' Pope Benedict says in first encyclical
Vatican City - Pope Benedict XVI released Wednesday his first encyclical,
Deus Caritas Est (God is Love), a profound exploration into Christianity\'s
central message that invites Catholics not to confuse love with lust.
The eagerly-awaited document is addressed to \'the bishops, priests and
deacons, religious men and women and all the lay faithful.\'
Signed by Benedict on December 25 - Christmas Day - its publication was
delayed because of changes brought to the text by experts checking its
draft.
The 70-page document is divided into two 42 sections and opens with a phrase
from the Bible: \'God is Love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and
God abides in him.\'
\'These words,\' Benedict writes in the introduction, \'express with
remarkable clarity the heart of the Christian faith.\'
The 78-year-old pope says his choice of subject is \'both timely and
significant\' in a world where \'the name of God is sometimes associated
with vengeance or even a duty of hatred and violence.\'
As a cardinal, Joseph Ratzinger headed the Vatican\'s Congregation for the
Doctrine of the Faith, the Church\'s main doctrinal watchdog, for nearly 25
years and is universally regarded as an enlightened theologian.
According to Church experts, however, his choice of encyclical shows that he
is now keen to cast himself as a pastor who seeks to explain his religion to
all.
\'Here we have a great theologian who is placing the teaching of
Christianity\'s core message at the centre of his papacy,\' said Sandro
Magister, a Vatican expert writing for Italian weekly L\'Espresso.
The encyclical is divided into two main parts. The first, seeks to \'clarify
some essential facts concerning the love which God mysteriously and
gratuitously offers to man,\' the pope says.
The second part looks at charity as a practical realization of Christian
love.
The pope draws from the Bible and from a vast range of philosophers,
including Friedrich Nietzsche, Descartes and Aristotle, and discusses the
relationship between two different concepts of love: erotic love (\'eros\')
and spiritual and selfless love (\'agape\').
He rejects the idea that Christianity is against sex, arguing instead that
his religion unites erotic and selfless love into a more mature form of
love.
\'Eros reduced to pure \'sex\' has become a commodity, a mere \'thing\' to
be bought and sold, or rather, man himself becomes a commodity,\' the pope
said.

Hi I was curious to see what other's in here have experienced with
schizophrenia and what their symptoms/ experiences were. I have only
minor
schizophrenia. I was diagnosed schizophrenaform originally. There was
also
possibilities of schizoid, schizo affective or typal, and a few others.
My
symptoms were only audiotory
hallucinations with some personality changes as a result. A lot was
caused
from major stress. My hallucinations were of paranoid neighbors making
negative comments about me and my bahavior. My father was diagnosed as
paranoid schizophrenic and mother bipolar with stress related audiotory
hallucinations, so there was a good chance I got it from them. I have
no
idea what a full blown schizophrenic experiences as my father has
passed on
since I was young so I cannot ask him. Anyone feeling free to comment
may do
so by email if personal or here in the group. I still occassionally get
the
symptoms back in a minor way. It doesn't effect me like it used to.
There
was also by one psychiatrist a possible depression diagnosis as well,
but
medication didn't change anything for it. I'm currently diagnosed as
residual schizophrenia.
Maybe you should take some antyiphysicotics LC?

One guy emailed me and said this is due to shyness, not schizophrenia.
Sure
I don't have a great self confidence- rather poor actually. I
constantly put
myself down and fear of getting into trouble, especially at work. I
watch
how freely others that work with me talk to each other, all except me.
Then
they tend to shut up too. Seems they don't really want to talk to me
much
more than I do. Sometimes its ok though. I just hate it when I see them
gabbing on about the world to each other except with me. My supervisor
was
like this the last meeting we had. He was quiet as a mouse when just
the 2
of us are int he room, until the others came back in. I tried a lame
attempt
to say something, but he just said- "yah" and brushed it off. I know
being a
seriuos person has part of something to do with it. Don't have a very
well
developed sense of humor- though sometimes I fluke out. Anyway this guy
gave
me a book to read up that emailed me. Its "The Art Of Mingling" by
Jeanne
Martinet. I'd feel better if I had lots of things to talk about, but
being
the person I am I only know a few things. Often I find I don't know
anything
about what someone is talking about.
EJ~ Lc Your really fucked up in the head.... Please return to your

There is nothing 'apparent' about any of man's gods to date.
We never tire of speaking on behalf of our gods do we, and yet we never use our
gray matter and ask ourselves why we have to do this if those gods are real. I
use the word 'gods' in the plural, as, of course, there are thousands of them.

Why is this a problem?

Why not have just one big newsgroup with everyone posting everything
there and let each person hunt down whatever has their interest?
Posts to this group should have an connection to abortion. Otherwise
the comment belongs in some other group.
This is just another example of a jesus freak propagandizing.
