Good fences makes good neighbors |

....A Washington, DC-based immigration reform organization hopes the Senate
will move quickly to pass a bill to construct 700 miles of fence along
sections of America's southern border with Mexico. The Secure Fence Act has
already been passed in the U.S. House. It calls for a double-layered
security fence to be completed in areas of Arizona and Texas. Ira Mehlman is
a spokesman with the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
Mehlman says H.R. 6061 is a slimmed-down bill designed to make it through
the Senate. "This is very slimmed-down version of the bill that the House
passed last December," he shares. The House leadership, he says, is "picking
off those components of the bill that they believe really are bullet-proof
politically, [so] that there is no way that the Senate couldn't agree to go
along with it." The FAIR spokesman says passage in the Senate could come
soon. "It passed a major hurdle when the Senate agreed to take it up without
the amendment process," he points out. "You have to remember, we're getting
down to the final days of the legislative session. All of the members want
to be able to go home and start campaigning, so we could see some action in
the Senate maybe within the next few days or a week or so." Mehlman says
President Bush has already pledged to sign the bill once it passes the
Senate.

Well, prior to reunification, Germany -was- two nations.
East Germany had its own government, its own army, its own seat in the
United Nations, its own Olympic team, and was recognized by and had
diplomatic relations with over 120 countries - including, not
incidently, the United States.
Peace and justice,

Of course. But, they didn't have much say in the matter when Germany was
divvied up between the allies, either.
Cor's statement "Eastern Germany is so proud of their Wall", ignores the
fact that established families who were formerly citizens of the same nation
were split apart such that people had to defect from their own nation to get
over the wall.
You don't have to defect from the US or Mexico to cross the border, and if
the wall is completed, the border itself will have existed for over a
century and a half.
China, by the way, seems perfectly content with their wall.

And it didn't do much good.
Note that the "Wall" in Germany was mostly double fence with minefield,
except for Berlin which was fence, minefield, then wall.

I'm telling yuz... non-lethal microwave weapons. Powered primarily by
solar array (if Santie Annie's army shows up we might have to tap into the
power grid) and trigged by infrared, motion sensor or video camera.
