From the article:
Waller wrote to Jackson concerning the 2003 article: "Oddly, you are the
first to question me about this. I'm surprised it has been repeated as often
as you say. My editors at the time didn't think it was necessary to run a
correction in the following issue of the magazine, and to my knowledge we
received no public comment."
Who does he write for that they didn't think such a gross misattribution
should not be corrected?

From the GOP/neo-con point of view, being very very sure of yourself
counts for a lot! This is one reason Pres. Bush can't ever admit to
making a mistake or even having the slightest particle of doubt. And
why they kept repeating those old spurious accusations against Clinton
long after they'd been completely discredited.
Also the Fox Newses and Wash Timeses of the world know what their
audience wants to hear, and they don't want to hear that neo-con
mouthpieces lie or even make honest mistakes. Neo-con 'sheeple' can't
live with doubt, they have a very low tolerance for 'cognative
dissonance'. So neo-con propagandists stick to their story and
complain that they're being victimized by a 'liberal media
conspiracy'.

Two other problems.... #1. Lincoln never actually hanged any
Congressmen for such actions. #2. The Constitution specifically
protects Members of Congress from being prosecuted for what they say
and do as part of their official duties.
