Government to appeal ruling on abortion measure |
Three Federal Judges in three states have delivered
similar decisions effectively telling Congress and the
government to stay out of the nation's operating rooms.
The cases were on the East and West coasts and now in
the heartland.
Government to appeal ruling on abortion measure
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Justice Department said Tuesday
that it will appeal a Nebraska judge's ruling striking
down the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act.
U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf declared the ban
unconstitutional Sept. 8, saying it interferes with the
right to an abortion and fails to allow exceptions when
a woman's health is in danger.
The Justice Department said it will challenge ruling on
both counts before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The law, signed by President Bush last year, bans a
procedure that doctors call intact dilation and
extraction and critics refer to as partial-birth
abortion. The fetus is partially removed from the womb
and its skull is punctured or crushed.
The ban has not been enforced because three federal
judges agreed to hear constitutional challenges in
simultaneous non-jury trials.
Kopf's ruling followed similar decisions by federal
judges in New York and San Francisco. The Justice
Department already has filed an appeal of the San
Francisco ruling.
The dispute is expected by many legal experts to
eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

Government to appeal ruling on abortion measure
Why is this a surprise? Of course the government will appeal.

This is what happens when we give 'government' unlimited access to our
hard earned dollars. What an incredible waste of time, money and risk to
women not to mention the violation of body rights.
All men may have been created but not women.

a) lets see any disenchantment you've ever posted with government use
of "our money" when they wasted $100 million investigating Clinton.
b) The Government has "access" to SOME of our "hard-earned" dollars,
---and because those who think that they shouldn't have any, give aid
and comfort to those who devise systematic plans to funnel it to the
top 2%.
We give the government "some access" because that's morally and
ethically needed to "provide for the general welfare" and "common
defense" (which doesn't necessarily mean military).
What loonytarians argue, is that "all men are created equal" and
ignore that "all men" are NOT equally capable of either surviving man
made greed and behavior.
Loonytarians simply ignore history and the eras (some recently) in
which their phony views were in vogue. Robber Barons, shoddy
procucts, horrible working conditions, market manipulation, corrupt
government, child labor........the list is endless. But it was a
loonytarian utopia-----IF you had the "individual" ability to raise
human aberrations to their worst level
All men may have been created but not women.
A generalized philosophical tenet about all men being "created equal"
is an ideal,---- however not universally accepted as a workable
reality without controls on those who take advantage of others less
inclined.

Go read my posts in other venues, I'll give you some links in private.

Some? They have access to all of it. Just because they may not have
attached your bank accounts doesn't mean the power hasn't been abused
elsewhere.

"Some access"? It's whatever politicians decide upon year to year. You
and I have no say in the matter. In fact taxation, as currently
implemented, is highly regressive. The worse the economy the more they
take, diametrically opposite common sense.
What loonytarians argue, is that "all men are created equal" and ignore
that "all men" are NOT equally capable of either surviving man made greed
and behavior.
Oh, quit already. Mischaracterizing, insulting, and name-calling destroys
any semblence of dialog and is a form of bigotry in itself. Speak to the
issues and stop bringing up straw men. End of this discussion.

But then you might as well do away with our elective system of

representatives.

Right. That's the point I was making. If taxation is an issue that we
have no say in, wouldn't it stand to follow that we have no say in ANY
issues that our politicians discuss?
