One of the nicest 'holidays' on the calender is Arbor Day. This is a day
everyone can put their differences aside, plant a tree, and celebrate life.

Arbor Day, plant a million trees
Thursday, April 27, 2006, 2:25 PM
by Gary Truitt
Some states celebrate Arbor Day at various times throughout the year, but
National Arbor Day is the last Friday of April. So for those celebrating
April 28, grab a shovel and get ready to plant a tree. Bob Eddleman has been
planting trees for the past year; his group has a goal of planting 1 million
trees.
Former Indiana State Conservationist, Eddleman has launched a program that
is encouraging homeowners and land owners to plant trees. In some cases
there are cost sharing funds available, but most of the time it is just
people who want to make their place a better place to live. Eddleman is
asking folks to plant a variety of different types of trees to avoid any
widespread damage a tree disease or insect might cause.
Education is a big part of the program. "There are a lot of things people do
that are really harmful to trees," said Eddleman. Tree topping, piling mulch
around the base of a tree, and damaging trees with lawnmowers are all common
mistakes people make, he noted.
To date Eddleman's group has been responsible for planting 80,000 trees. He
hopes to reach the million mark in 5 years. Indiana Senator Richard Lugar
has joined in support of the effort, and the City of Indianapolis has set a
goal of planting 100,000 trees.
While Arbor Day is a great day to plant a tree, Eddleman reminds us that
every day is a good day to plant a tree.

According to your Abrahamic death cult, trees don't always bring good
luck, do they?

Ya know, I think we may finally agree on something, Jon. (just put in an
apple and a plum tree).

Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life. Aim above
morality. Be not simply good; be good for something.

Is it not off-topic to even be posting to call attention to the topic of
being off-topic.

True. But pagan celebrations are like that...
