Object: Happy St. Valentine's Day to all
February 14th marks the day the Romans executed St. Valentine; beheaded as a
martyr. Christians have celebrated this day as a feast day ever since.
Atheists, Jews, and Muslims are being hypocrites if they celebrate a
Christian holiday. We don't celebrate any of the crap you guys celebrate as
religious observances. Atheists of course shouldn't be celebrating anything
with the word "Saint" in it's name. But for those who don't care that much
and just go along with whatever the crowd does; Happy St. Valentine's Day
to you and the ones you love.

Ah, evolution in action - and don't you just love the proof of it? At
one time the remembrance of St. Valentine was an entirely Christian
invention and celebrated as such. But today it, like "Christmas", has
become something rather different and as such illustrative of the
principle of evolution.

We don't celebrate any of the crap you guys celebrate as
religious observances.

What? Not Saturnalia, nor the festival of Estore? For shame!

Of course, the Christians just hijacked it so they could make it their idea,
and hope no one would notice that it had been around long before the Christian
cult got delusions of power...

Try Korea sometime.
When Valentine's day was adopted, it was in typical confucianist
style: girls and women were supposed to lavish attention on
males. Rather than change to have the day for both genders,
Koreans invented "white day" on March 14 for boys and men to
lavish attention on females. Needless to say, Korean males
don't spend near as much on females as they expect from them.

So, by your reasoning, Christians are hypocrites.

I was musing why Cupid is armed with a bow and arrow shooting
fatal shots into the heart.
Then I remembered. (At least enough to look it up on Google, anyway!)
http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/ValentinesDay/default.asp
And then there's the modern (as modern as it needs be) variant:
http://www.prairieghosts.com/valentine.html
in which that cute little Cupid exchanges his red-tipped heart
arrows for a red tommy gun...
Huyng Sun Moon would *love* that one, since he used to be a

It's an odd holiday, that one. The happiest story of the above

Pro-liar revisionism.
Saint Valentine or Saint Valentinus refers to one of at least
three martyred saints of ancient Rome. The feast of Saint
Valentine was formerly celebrated on February 14 by the Roman
Catholic Church until the revised calendar 1969.
The feast of St. Valentine was first decreed in 496 by Pope
Gelasius I, who included Valentine and Saint George
among those "...whose names are justly reverenced among men, but
whose acts are known only to God." The creation of the feast for
such dimly conceived figures may have been an attempt to supersede
the pagan holiday of Lupercalia that was still being celebrated in
5th century Rome, on February 15.

Atheists, Jews, and Muslims are being hypocrites if they celebrate a
Christian holiday.

*****...it's yet another consumer driven holiday. A good hint is if
M&M's puts out a special color scheme. (Tho' they might be missing the
boat with Mother's Day...mebbe cos there's no color scheme...I'm going
with puce, beige and burnt umber.) It's a gold mine for flower, candy
and jewelry producers and sellers.
But, by all means...celebrate the day at the special St. Valentine's
Day Mass...oh, there won't be?...then watch the pope celebrate it on
TV...oh he won't? Are sure it's a christer holiday?
Se ya on St. Patrick's Day...snapperhead.

February 14th marks the day the Romans executed St. Valentine; beheaded as a

Of course, if you acknowledged the actual origin as a Christian
co-opting of the festivals of Lupercalia, that would be closer to the
truth, as acknowledging that there's a real possibility that there
never was a 'Valentine' person to begin with would be.

I bought a Venus Fly Trap today. I was going to name it
‘Republican’, but the fly trap is beneficial to the
environment. I’ll save that name - someday I might find
a plant that eats poor people and minorities.
