Here is proof of stem cell cure

I was interviewed by The News-Journal for an Aug. 11, 2001, story expressing
my views regarding the thorny issue of stem cells. Because I am a recipient
of stem cells myself and am cured completely from my cancer, I would like to
comment on the subject. In Associated Press writer Ron Fournier's Aug. 10
article. "First lady attacks Kerry's stem cell view," Mrs. Bush expressed
her views on this highly charged political and scientific issue. She said,
"We don't even know that the stem cell research will provide cures for
anything -- much less that it's very close" to yielding major advances.
I am alive today entirely because of stem cell research. I was supposed to
live only 18 months in 1993 when I was diagnosed, according to the doctors
at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Because of an experimental stem cell
transplant performed at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 1995, I am able
to write these few words today.
I say, categorically, Laura Bush is wrong!
