This will unfortunately become the future of the American cities unless
Congress does something to stem the tide of illegals crossing into this
country. I wish Mayor Barletta best wishes for a complete success.
http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/news/politics/14854434.htm
HAZLETON, Pa. - With tensions rising and its police department and municipal
budget stretched thin, this small northeastern Pennsylvania city is about to
begin what the mayor calls one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal
immigrants anywhere in the United States.
"Illegal immigrants are destroying the city," said Mayor Lou Barletta, a
Republican. "I don't want them here, period."
Last week Barletta introduced, and the City Council tentatively approved, a
measure that would revoke the business licenses of companies that employ
illegal immigrants; impose $1,000 fines on landlords who rent to illegal
immigrants; and make English the official language of the city.
Barletta said he had no choice but to act after two illegal immigrants from
the Dominican Republic were charged last month with shooting and killing a
29-year-old man. Other recent incidents involving illegal immigrants have
rattled this former coal town 80 miles northwest of Philadelphia, including
the arrest of a 14-year-old boy for firing a gun at a playground.
"This is crazy," said Barletta, who took office in 2000. "People are afraid
to walk the streets. There's going to be law and order back in Hazleton and
I'm going to use every tool I possibly can."

I suppose as soon as two legal American citizens are charged with the
same crime,
Barletta will have no choise but to ban those too:)
In fact expediting illegal immigrants will hardly make the streets
saver.
You just create a greater number of people, wanting to avoid the law.
Unless one is able to find the illegals before they can join up,
organized crime will probably florish.

Of course not. But creating scapegoats is easier than actually dealing
with real issues. Besides, it gets votes!

You do that.

I would pick lettuce if someone would pay me at least half of that $50 a
head considering the current cost of living.
But, fifty dollars a head seem qutie ludicrous.
Even a dollar a head wouldn't be bad, imo.
This type work is somewhat seasonal, right?

Oh, yeah. I do believe that to be true.
At least temporarily there would be many persons in a bind, imo.
Restaurateurs would go out of business, imo.

Hell, we have riots in this country when peoples' favorite football teams
*WIN.*

Really? Trying to think of an instance of that.

IMHO you open borders types are grossly mistaken about how the
illegal immigration issue plays in Heartland America, Bilgeboob.
Apparently you believe that illegals are above reproach, and that
anybody who dares to address the problem will be attacked by lynch
mobs. Most inside-the-beltway Dems and many Reps including Bush
agree with you. But us ordinary working folks resent having to pay
$10,000 per year to educate each of the illegals' children--thus
depriving children who are US citizens. We resent exorbitant medical
fees because hospitals have to gouge their patients who can pay to
cover those who are here illegally and don't pay anything.
And you had better believe that American blue collar workers like
those who do construction, plumbing, drywall, painting and lots of other
jobs are fucking tired of having their wages driven down and even
their jobs stolen by illegals.
You may be wrong when you predict electoral disaster for Reps on
this subject.

Obviously you're missing the point, Barney. Dems have been welcoming
illegals with open arms because they think it will bring them votes. Their
frantic lust for power is causing them to not see the down side--it pisses

Actually, it is Bush who suggests guest worker status for all that entered the
country illegally. When I last checked, he had run as a Republican. Perhaps you
are right that the Dem's welcome them with open arms, but it is the GOP who is
suggesting that they hold the door open for them (illegals) and give them
presents.

They came here LEGALLY, Barney.

Because they were allowed to come here. Making it illegal doesn't mean
it is suddenly OK to keep them out.

As opposed to the ILLEGALS who
IGNORE our laws and STEAL resources from HONEST HARDWORKING
TAXPAYERS, dumbass.

You are full of *****, you bigoted *****. No wonder you oppose the
Democrats. I live in Southern California and I can tell you that there
is not a harder, more honest bunch of people out there than Mexican
immigrants. As for taxes, they pay them. Furthermore, they are often
taken advantage of by racist pricks like you.

The fact that you can't distinguish legal from illegal, and you think that
illegal behavior should be rewarded, shows how clueless you really
are.

The fact that you are so stupid as to believe that simply labeling
something as illegal somehow changes your racist, bigoted position
tells me you are clueless. The blue collar workers of today are
getting what they deserve. As Republicans ship your jobs out of the
country, you turn to racism as an excuse. This is exactly the kind of
mindless hate that the Republicans count on. Maybe it is time to pick
up a broom. That is all the Republicans have left for you and you
apparently support that.

Our immigration laws re: Latinos are racist indeed. There are quotas on
how many Latinos can come here a year. There are no quotas limiting any
other ethnic groups coming here. This is the same song that whites sang
in the 1880s about the Chinese laborers "they're taking all the good
jobs away from 'merkins". It was a lie then and it's a lie now. In the
1880s the Chinese were willing to work harder, faster and longer for
***** wages in usually dangerous jobs than white Americans were. The same
is true today in re Mexicans and other Latinos.
Elsewhere in this thread some highly uninformed moron was trying to
argue that the only factor in the market price of lettuce is labor, it's
not true because he was arguing wages, apparently he's never heard of
the United Farm Workers Union which demands and gets benefits for union
members including medical and retirement benefits. If the small farmer
(becoming more of an endangered species these days in the wake of
corporate farms) had to pay union wages, benefits etc they'd end up in
the poorhouse. Oh wait, the US doesn't have poorhouses that means they'd
end up on the streets as homeless as the street people.

We have to expect those lower income, blue collar workers who are

Aw, how sweet. Schlepp has found a butt-boy who offers nothing
to the conversation, just adoration of the previous poster.

Obviously you're missing the point, Barney. Dems have been welcoming

Pure *****. Keep listening to the Right Wing and see what that gets
you.

Their
frantic lust for power is causing them to not see the down side--it pisses
off legal US citizens who don't like being sold down the river in order for
politicians to get votes.

Except that doesn't happen. Where do you suppose your ancestors came
from?

They came here LEGALLY, Barney. As opposed to the ILLEGALS who
IGNORE our laws and STEAL resources from HONEST HARDWORKING
TAXPAYERS, dumbass.

The fact that you can't distinguish legal from illegal, and you think that
illegal behavior should be rewarded, shows how clueless you really
are.

The term "illegal" is purely an invention of you right wing merchants
of hate.

They are not criminals, not under US law. There are here improperly,
but not illegally.

No, they broke the law. They are here illegally, and they are
illegals

That's why you want a law declaring them illegal--so you can
legitimize your hate and your misuse of the phrase "illegal alien".

That makes six of you.

The other 290 million would be overturning Congressional limos. The worker
visa program would be passed unanimously and the President would be,
wringing his hands, snapping at Congress, "Hurry up! The lynch mob is
getting closer!!!!!"

You blue collar workers need to pull your head out of your asses and
start voting for the Democrats. Ever since the goose steppers have
been in power, you have been losing ground.

So when will the Democrats get tough on immigration?
Any Democrat who proposes land-mining the border will easily win
el;ection even in a 55% Republican district. That they do not indicates
that they have nothing to offer for blue-collar workers.
