Is Kerry Disingenious or Ignorant? |
On Sep. 26, 2004, the AP posted an article titled: "Bush,
Kerry on Issue of Abortion
Three times a week, The Associated Press picks an issue
and asks President Bush and Democratic presidential can-
didate John Kerry a question about it. Today's question
and responses:
ABORTION: Should girls be required to tell their parents
before having an abortion?
[...]
Kerry:
"Like any parent, I believe that parents should be
fully involved in all decisions regarding their
children. But we also have to take into account
possible family dysfunction, including abuse or
incest. I will not force a girl who has been abused
by a family member to ask the rapist for permission
in making a difficult and heart-wrenching choice.
Too many proposed laws have failed to include common
sense 'bypass' provisions to protect the victims of
these brutal and unspeakable crimes."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Papa Jack laughed:
Like most of Kerry's statements, this one is either
disingenious or ignorant. The Supreme Court decision
in OHIO v. AKRON CENTER, 497 U.S. 502 (1990) -- Decided
June 25, 1990 laid out detailed requirements for judicial
bypass provisions in state abortion laws necessitating
parential involvement in cases involving minors.
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?navby=search&court=US&case=/us/497/502.html
Notice how Kerry didn't really reply to the question asked,
"Should girls be required to tell their parents before having
an abortion?."
Instead, he chooses to do battle with a straw man -- i.e.,
attacking unidentified "proposed laws."
I do not know of any "proposed laws [which] have failed to
include common sense 'bypass' provisions to protect the
victims of these brutal and unspeakable crimes." Do you?

Compare that to Papa Jack's statements, which all manage to be both
disingenious and ignorant combined. It's a rare talent he has.
By the way, those of us with reading comprehension skills understood
Kerry. In PolSpeak, he said they should tell their parents, but he
doesn't want to legally force them to.
Will it be necessary to rewrite that in smaller words for you?
(Uh-oh. Papa Jack Spam repost approaching.)

I disagree with you wholeheartedly, PJ. What Kerry shows
is "empathy."...
========================================================================
Papa Jack smiles:
How is it "empathy" to choose to do battle with a straw
man? Most of the folks involved on both sides feel empathy
for any minor who finds herself pregnant as a result of rape
or sex abuse. But Kerry would "wrap the flag around himself"
by pretending that all who disagree with him would
"...force a girl who has been abused by a family
member to ask the rapist for permission in mak-
ing a difficult and heart-wrenching choice."
That's an implied lie. All the parential involvement laws
I know of all contain a judicial bypass provision to allow
for just such circumstances. But, Kerry states:
"Too many proposed laws have failed to include
common sense 'bypass' provisions to protect the
victims of these brutal and unspeakable crimes."
That's not true.

Papa Jack asked:
Can you support that statement, Reptile? Just because
you had some personal bad experiences in your younger
years doesn't make that typical of the millions of
Americans who believe the Bible is the inspired word
of God.
MY own experiences have been the opposite. I find the
fundamentalist religious households I know of (and I
know many) to include a clear majority of warmhearted,
caring people who repeatedly go out of their way to
help the less fortunate people in the world. Are these
folks perfect? Of course not, they're human beings so
they make mistakes. But, I find them far more caring
than some typical "liberals" who love to pat themselves
on the back for being so wonderful.

Do you want to know what my definition of "evil" is,
PJ? I call a complete inability to emphathise with a
sentinent lifeform of ANY species, "evil."
========================================================================
Papa Jack nodded:
Okay, I don't have a problem with that. Your definition
is similar to the medical one for a sociopath.
http://medical-dictionary.com/dictionaryresults.php
"A personality disorder characterised by a
continuous and persistent pattern of aggres-
sive behaviour in which the rights of others
are violated."
The textbooks will tell you that sociopaths don't have a
conscience -- partly because they are totally egocentric --
i.e., unable to empathise with others.

Jackass, on the other hand, HAS stated that parents should be allowed
to force their daughters to get abortions. No wonder he hates Kerry.
Kerry wouldn't allow Jackass to kill women.

Jackass, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Did Shrub have more than a 5 word reply? I'm sure he's been
working on his "moral outrage" facade. "Can the swagger and smirk,
look strong but sullen, invoke "God" often"
