YAKIMA, Wash. - A former youth pastor who used his church computer to
try and arrange sex with a fictitious boy was sentenced Wednesday in
Yakima to six years in prison for possessing child pornography.
Forty-five-year-old James N. Cannel resigned from the Selah Covenant
Church in March of last year, shortly after Seattle police arrested
him on allegations that he communicated online with what he thought
was a 12-year-old boy. The other person was actually a detective.
