CLERMONT -- An Illinois man was arrested Saturday and charged with a
hate crime after he beat a man and called him racial slurs at a
Clermont strip club, Lake County sheriff's reports show.
Nicholas Piper, 25, was released from the Lake County Jail the next
day on $5,500 bond.
According to an arrest report, Piper, who is white, is accused of
shoving a black man and calling him derogatory names.
The victim attempted to leave the club when Piper punched him in the
face, the report said.
Piper then picked up a beer bottle and tried to hit the man again but
missed.
That's when a club bouncer detained Piper until deputies arrived, the
arrest report said.
Witnesses told investigators the victim did nothing to provoke Piper
and did not retaliate when he was attacked, the arrest report said.
