Tell me, do you think a 34 year-old quote provides an accurate
representation of Kerry's present position?

Why not. Kerry obviously thinks that his 30 year old military record is the
primary reason why he should be elected president.

International treaties and accords (such as the Geneva Convention)
*are* US law once the US signs them.

Lemme see if I can diagram this:
THEY never stop
***thinking about ways to HARM our COUNTRY and our PEOPLE***
and
NEITHER DO WE (ever stop thinking about ways to HARM our COUNTRY and our
PEOPLE).
Do you see what he is saying? Do not infer what you think he meant,
because what you think he meant is not what he said. I am not "twisting"
anything; it is what he said.

stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and
neither do we."

All he is saying is that our intel community is vigilant. If you want
to twist it into a different context, fine, but what you are inferring
is not correct.

Lemme see if I can diagram this:

THEY never stop
***thinking about ways to HARM our COUNTRY and our PEOPLE***

and

NEITHER DO WE (ever stop thinking about ways to HARM our COUNTRY and our
PEOPLE).

Nope. NEITHER DO WE (ever stop thinking of ways to prevent them from
doing HARM to our COUNTRY and our PEOPLE). It's called vigilance.

Do you see what he is saying?

Yes.

Do not infer what you think he meant,
because what you think he meant is not what he said. I am not "twisting"
anything; it is what he said.

I'd say that you already made your own inference. You are Bush bashing
and twisting what he says. Your bias is very strong.

No, I am afraid you are wrong. This is a typical Bush malapropism. I'm
not saying he is stupid, but he does say some pretty stupid things at
times. If you parse the sentence correctly (without your pro-Bush bias)
it is clear he is saying that al Qaeda never stops trying to do harm to
our country, and neither do we. It didn't come out like he meant, but
that is how it came out.

Admittedly, I am anti-Bush, because I believe he has done a miserable
job as president. His malapropisms have nothing to do with my opinion,
though they are quite funny.
BTW, his father was also known to say such things. Apparently, it is a
family trait.

Are you speaking about the sentence:
They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our
people, and neither do we."
If so, it is quite clear in the idea that "they" and "we" both *think* of
ways to hurt the country.
There is nothing in the sentence that suggests what either group ("they" and
"we") do with those thoughts. Maybe the two groups do the same thing, maybe
they do different things.
I would hazard a guess that "they" try to find ways to execute the "ways to
harm our country" and "we" try to find ways to prevent it. But that is just
a guess... the reality is that the sentence is not clear on that point.
To get clarity, two things can be done: look at the context or ask the
originator of the sentence what he meant. Since I believe the originator of
the sentence is Bush, it is unlikely we are going to be able to ask him
directly (what is the chance he would actually answer to the American public
on this when he does not on so many other things). That leaves us with
looking at the context. Anyone happen to have it? Seems like a no-brainer
to me that the context of the poorly worded sentence would need to be known.
The point Bush was working toward was "We must never stop thinking about how
best to defend our country." With that in mind, it seems clear what he
meant.
Sure, he worded it poorly... so? While I agree it is somewhat humorous, and
perhaps even telling of his real motives, it is hardly worth the attention
that was given to it.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Agreed. Texans, some, are like that in their ways of speech.
