A retired priest who stole $140,000 from his church yesterday thanked
the judge who sentenced him to three years probation, saying the
jurist had treated him better than the church to which he had devoted
his life.
The Rev. Henry Felix Schabowski, 71, who was pastor of the
historically Polish St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church in Trenton for
18 years, admitted in February that he misappropriated the money
between July 1, 2001 and Dec. 31, 2003.
