Lone Activist Riles Marchers |
On July 26, 2004, the Rocky Mountain News posted an article
by M.E. Sprengelmeyer, titled: "Lone Activist Riles Marchers."
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/election/article/0,1299,DRMN_36_306483,00.html
___________________________________________________________________________
Excerpts:
"Anti-war protesters tussled with an anti-abortion activist Sunday
and sparked a debate within their own ranks about the meaning of
free speech. There were no injuries in the 15-minute scrum, which
happened before an otherwise peaceful protest march on the eve of
the Democratic National Convention.
[...]
"The protesters included a mix of peace activists, revolutionary
groups and others. Cianflone, who supports long-shot presidential
hopeful Dennis Kucinich, was there to express displeasure with
both Bush and Kerry over the war.
"As the crowds of protesters grew and grew, an uninvited guest -
anti-abortion, anti-gay activist Leonard Gendron, of Boston -
took up a position along a pathway, hoisting a sign showing a
picture of an aborted fetus on one side. On the other side were
the words "Homo sex is sin." To say the least, his ideology
clashed with other messages in the predominantly left-leaning
crowd.
[...]
"Soon, Gendron was surrounded by dozens more people who called
for him to take down his sign. A group of photographers and
television cameras formed a tight circle around them.
"It quickly turned into a scrum, as Gendron put his sign on the
ground, fell on top, then taunted the angry opponents who sur-
rounded him. ‘Get off our sign, you daughter of the devil,' a
voice from the mob shouted at one point. ‘Kill that Nazi,'
someone from the crowd yelled. There was a lot of pushing and
shoving for 15 tense minutes. "Some in the anti-war crowd
finally wrestled the sign away from Gendron. He slipped out of
the crowd without his sign, and his opponents quickly ripped
the picture off one side and tried in vain to tear the plastic
coated placard to pieces.
[...]
"But one protester, who did not want to be identified, said
Gendron's anti-gay message crossed the line.
"'I think stuff like that is hate, and hate shouldn't be tole-
rated,'the man said.
[...]

I guess that's why Michael Moore had so much trouble finding a distributor
for his 'lil movie? Y'know, the one that just surpassed $100,000,000?
This seems to be particularly true of radical liberals.
How 'bout them radical conservatives, PJ?:

Indeed, we've seen several examples of right-wing conservatives trying
to censor speech they don't like. Some recent examples being the movie
about Reagan than CBS cancelled because of right-wing intolerance,
the attempts of neocons to censor Moore, and conservatives forcing
Howard Stern off of the air.
This seems to be particularly true of radical
.... conservatives.
