Majority of Americans Favor More Restrictions on Abortion, New Poll Shows |
The people of America are raising their voices; I hope the politicians are
listening. People's lives are at stake.
http://www.lifenews.com/nat2482.html
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll conducted by the Pew Research
Center and released at the end of last week finds a strong majority of
Americans want more restrictions on abortions and almost half say it should
be illegal in all or most circumstances.
The July 6-19 poll surveyed 2,003 American adults and found that 46 percent
of Americans want abortion to be banned altogether (11 percent) or legal
only in a few rare instances (35 percent).
Along with those, another 20 percent said abortion should be allowed but
want more restrictions on it -- making a total of 64 percent of Americans
who want abortions banned or restricted.
Just 31 percent of the public wants abortion to be generally available and
not have more restrictions placed on it.

Your "lifenews" article doesn't link to the polling data -- I wonder why.
Could it be that it's not really news?

But that would mean discovering the public isn't actually going to support
banning abortion!

You sooooo need to get better sources of information. Here's what Pew said:
http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=283
Public opinion about the legality of abortion is largely unchanged from
previous polling. While about one-in-three (31%) prefer for abortion to
be generally available to those who want it and one-in-ten (11%) take
the opposite position that abortion should not be permitted at all, most
Americans fall in between, preferring what might be described as a
"legal but rare" stance. One-in-five (20%) say that abortion should be
available but under stricter limits than it is now, while about
one-in-three (35%) say that abortion should be illegal except in cases
of rape, incest or to save the woman's life.

FYI, all a.a. readers who are familiar with Craig Chilton:
Craig has claimed no fewer than six times that he is an elected
official of the Iowa Republican party. To be specific, he says that
he has been *RE*-elected the State Central Committee:
BUT: I did some homework by speaking directly to members of the Iowa
Republican party, specifically, Marlys Popma, Darrell Kearney, Joel
Hannahs, Chad Barth, and Carolyn McGoldrick. I received responses
from some of them, and they did not recognize the name Craig Chilton.
Mr. Kearney flat out said Craig was not a member of the central
committee whatsoever.
Okay, so maybe they aren't entirely informed. But, what about the
website? Wouldn't the Local Party Officials directory for Black Hawk
county have Craig's name there?
http://www.iowagop.org/directory.asp
Hm, no Craig.
Let's try somewhere else:
http://www.elect...@co.black-hawk.ia.us/ ?
Nope.
A Google search of Iowa Republicans, Black Hawk County Republicans,
and the like produced nothing. Black Hawk County Republicans site
seemed to be having server trouble, and if anything develops with it I
will post it.

"Which comes closer to your view about the abortion issue? The country

Middle Ground: 66%

Once upon a time in alt.atheism, dear sweet (youngopinions@aol.com)
made the light shine upon us with this:
The people of America are raising their voices; I hope the politicians
are listening. People's lives are at stake.
Who's lives are at stake? The people raising their voices are the pro-life
people, who don't understand what life actually is. That's like you and I
saying we're pro-macarkle.
