Mayor pushes to fine people for using the "N" word |
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,246279,00.html
"Mayor Ken Corley of Brazoria, Texas, has proposed a city ordinance that
would make using the word in an offensive fashion a crime equal to
disturbing the peace and punishable by a fine of up to $500. But legal
experts said it's unlikely the law will stand up to the First Amendment."
This is all well and good, the word shouldn't be used at all. But I wonder,
what about the blacks in the town of Brazoria, Texas who use the word? I
hear blacks, mainly the younger blacks, call each other that all the time.
Would this apply to them as well?
I wonder, how many of them realize just how many blacks in the 60's fought
and shed blood, so we could get rid of using racial slurs like that?

I wonder if Faux News bothered to mention the conditions under which the
proposed ordinance would be enforced: not if it was used as an affectionate
term, which raises the issue of criminalizing thought *and* emotion...and the
fact that the city would assess at least a $500 fine per infraction. Can you
say "municipal cash cow" for the short term? This ordinance is a waste of the
taxpayers' time and money in Brazoria (and Brazoria County). What's likely to
happen, if it's enacted, is it'll be slapped down by a higher court because of
that annoying First Amendment.

Censorship.
I can use the "N" word anytime I want to.
And, how about every television program or movie or recording or book that
does it?
Is he intending to prosecute those as well?
Just think if the "N" word is on five million cds.
At $500 per count, that is $2.5 billion.
See why censorship isn't a good thing?
Another crazy rule made by lazy ingrates who hate the first amendment.

Why does everyone automatically assume that the "N" word is used only to
connote black persons?

Why do you assume that the voices in your head are binding on anyone else not

Because not everybody is as drug-addled as you are.
