The Real Reason I can't vote for Kerry
I have seen the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth commercial, and I have
seen the veterans themselves appearing on news programs. I have also seen
the Army officer rescued by LT(jg) Kerry and have seen his crewmen, or at
least some of them, stand by him at the convention. I was ready to put the
whole issue off to politics and personality until I saw the DD-214 that
Kerry has posted on his web site, JohnKerry.com.
It is apparent to me that the DD-214 provided by Kerry (From his
personal files, not from official Navy records) is a faked document. I have
observed the following discrepancies in the "Awards and Decorations" block:
1. The awards are not abreviated. Standardized abreviations are used
for awards, but on Kerry's they are spelled out.
2. He has an award listed that does not exist. He lists the "Silver
Star with Combat V." The V device is awarded only with the Bronze Star and
the Navy Commendation, to differentiate an award for valor in combat from
the same awards for non-combat heroism or meritorious achievement. The SSM
is awarded only for valor.
3. Speaking of the Combat V, the term "Combat V" is an informal,
colloquial reference to what is listed in official records, including the
DD-214, as the "V Device." Kerry's lists the improper term.
4. Kerry's DD-214 lists "Purple Heart (3 awards)." The correct way
this notation would have been made on a DD-214 is "MOPH w/ 2 OLC." In plain
English, the Military Order of the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Kerry's act in presenting the people with a faked document on his
website gives credence to the allegations of the Swift Boat Veterans for
Truth; that Kerry is a a liar and is manipulative. That he seeks
self-promotion without regard for its effects on others or for the truth.
But the real reason that I can't vote for him is his betrayal of all
of us after his return from Vietnam. His testimony that he witnessed
atrocities, and that most of us engaged in atrocities, was a lie. He lied to
ingratiate himself with the far left, and with Jane Fonda, whose money
funded his demonstrations.
I can't forget his closeness to Hanoi Jane, who went to North Vietnam
and taunted the tortured American prisoners, and who posed smiling on a gun
used to kill our comrades.
Now he lies again to distance himself from the same Jane Fonda he
embraced in the 1970's.
Kerry's entire life appears to be characterized by self-serving lies.
Some people accuse Bush for lying about the Iraq War, and for serving
in the National Guard instead of seeking combat. I, however, can fully
understand what Clausewitz described as the "Fog of War;" trying to make
decisions in an environment of imperfect intelligence. I would also rather
support a Guardsman who was honest about his service than someone whose
service is shrouded by a web of falsehoods.
