one abortion a second |
EACH year over thirty million abortions are performed throughout the
world. That is about one abortion for every second of each day all year
long.
Iin recent years many countries have passed more permissive abortion
laws. In some places there are very few restrictions, meaning that the
legal policy is 'abortion on demand.' Some authorities predict that
most countries will eventually adopt this attitude. In India killing
unborn girls is an accepted practice.

I don't think it's a crime. It's a mistake.
People die for their mistakes all the time. They get hit by cars,
they drink too much, they monkey with electrical equipment they aren't
certified to work on, they take the wrong medicine, and kill themselves
in 1000 other ways.
I don't think they "should" die for any of these mistakes. But I do
think that if you lose control of your car because you were driving too
fast, the resulting crash is your fault. The action doesn't mean you
deserve to die, but as Gandalf said, "many who die deserve life".
If you're really uptight about condoms and the AIDS fight, going on
about the Vatican is stupid. Their recommendations, if followed, would
stop the spread of HIV overnight.
The people to get uptight about are the anti-science whackjobs, such
as South Africa's former Deputy President Jacob Zuma. He's the guy who
was on trial for raping an HIV-positive woman. He didn't wear a condom,
and he explained that he reduced his chances of infection by taking a
shower afterwards.
If you want to complain about someone not helping in the fight against
HIV, people like Zuma are a far more important target than the Vatican.

Jacob Zuma and people like him have unsafe sex because they don't like

So let me ask a question to see if there's any hope at all for any kind
of discussion: if somebody rides a motorcycle without a helmet, and
suffers a head injury, is it his fault?
If Bob knows he's HIV-positive, and he has has sex with Mary, and she
later finds out she's HIV-positive too, should Mary say "Darn that Pope
for giving me this illness" ? What excuses do you make for Bob so that
Mary's illness isn't Bob's fault?
*
You have blamed the Pope exclusively for the spread of HIV. Not once
have you named anyone else. Not once have you said anything at all like
"Of course those having unsafe sex bear some of the responsibility", or
anything like it.
If it is truly your position that people who engage in unsafe acts are
not responsible for the result, then we have nothing to talk about.
If that's not your position, how is it you have yet to mention their
culpability even once?
You keep saying "quit making excuses" -- but you have done nothing BUT
make excuses for the entire thread. When I said that someone who does
something is responsible for the results, you said I was a religious
bigot to think that way.
So far as we know, the Pope doesn't have HIV. Even if he did, he has no
known sex partners and thus hasn't spread it to anyone else. But you
keep condemning the Pope for the problem.
The ones actually spreading HIV to other partners are the people having
unsafe sex. But instead of condemning the people infecting their
partners, you condemn the Pope and make excuses for the people who are
actually out there having sex and infecting their partners.
Why is that?

what the Pope says?
Yes.
The Vatican has no position on seatbelts, so far as I know, and still
some people only wear them because the law demands it.
And if the pope did have a position against seatbelts then fewer people
would wear them.
It's not the
Pope keeping people from wearing seatbelts or motorcycle helmets.
Because, as you wrote, "the Vatican has no position on seatbelts".
Some people just don't like it when cultural Nannies nag them into
playing it safe.
"Cultural Nannies" like the pope.
Quit making excuses.
And if the Pope said: " Don't fornicate, wait until marriage to have
sex," they will listen to him?
Why shouldn't anybody listen to some judgemental old hypocrites who
don't know anything about sex and marriage?

Figure it out, halfwit.
If we threw everybody into prison and forced the work to live under an
oppressive dictatorship then AIDS wouldn't be an issue. Liberty has its
price. If you don't like it then YOU live in a dictatorship. I refuse to.

The answer was, many do listen but shouldn't. Old male virgins(?) in
dresses should not be giving instruction on sex. Or anything else.

What do you think would happen if the Pope said "Condoms are okay"?
More people would use them.
Do

This is a good question.
My wife grew up in a catholic neighborhood. All of her high school
friends were in italian catholic or irish catholic families. They
knew they weren't supposed to have premarital sex because it was
against their religion. And yet they all _did_ but they didn't admit
to themselves they were going to do it until they _were_ doing it. So
they didn't plan, and they didn't use birth control, and a number of
them ended up getting abortions.
Could this have been different if the attitude of their religious
authority figurews was "don't have sex until you are ready, and when
you do have sex make sure you use birth control?"
Quite possibly.
Did the pope's position affect them in a negative way? Yes. Does it
affect everyone? No.

The Pope doesn't allow condoms is a poor excuse. Just like abortion is
good for rape is a poor excuse.
These excuses are created by people to alliviate their ill trained
conscious to begin with.
People want to fornicate and don't want the responsibility that comes
with their actions, whether it be a an STD or pregnancy.

Religious zealots hate freedom. Their way or death are the only
acceptable options.

You anti-sex preverts have been so corrupted by your hatred of people
that you would rather see people dead than free to have sex safely.
