A Northern Kentucky pastor has been sentenced to 30 months in federal
prison for stealing church funds, income tax evasion and making false
loan applications.
Reverend Larry Davis, 58, was the pastor at the First Baptist Church
of Cold Spring for 20 years until he resigned in October 2005.
The investigation began when more than $700,000 turned up missing from
the church.
In U.S. District Court in Covington on Friday morning, a judge said
Davis has a gambling addiction that must be treated in prison.
Davis had this statement: "Nobody is more mad at me than me. I have
sorrow and remorse am ready to accept my punishment. I have no
excuses. I broke the law. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to every member of the
congregation and the community as well."
The issue caused a divide in Davis' church.
"There were a lot of poeple hurt by this, there were a lot of families
and relationships that were destroyed by this. There are families that
won't talk, mothers and daugthers that won't talk that are on both
sides of this issue," said former church member Stuart Oehrle.
First baptist's former treasurer, Darryl Neltner, originally uncovered
Davis' crimes.
"I believe Larry Davis will say anything he needs to say to get
whatever he needs to get. He is an extremely evil person that really
doesn't care about relationships that he has damaged," Neltner told
9News.

Dumb. The smart ones have more money and do it legally.
Of course if it were a crime to fleece the sheep...
