This story mutates faster than the virus. I heard that the CDC went to
Central Africa and inoculated a whole area against smallpox. They were
all dead in two years and that was the start of AIDS in Africa. Then
I heard that rich Africans go to Haiti for vacations and that is a
homosexual playground for gay Americans. Some say that is how AIDS
got to the US and why it started in the gay community.
Then I heard that the CDC had an advertisement out in New York City
asking for some gays to volunteer for a new hepatitis vaccine. Those
who tried it were all dead in two years and AIDS was again in the gay
community.
Also I read that the 'green monkey' theory was all fake and that AIDS
virus was a mutated sheep recombinant virus from Scandinavia or
Greenland that was engineered probably as a weapon and either
accidentally or purposely got out of control.
If I remember right most of this came from a book called "AIDS, the

Yeah, there's a shitload of theories about where, when, and how AIDS got
started. I haven't heard any yet that say it was introduced to a gay guy
who was abducted by space aliens......... At least, not yet <g>
But it *is* known that several species of primates carry a virus that is
very similar to the HIV virus and affects primates very much the way that
HIV does humans. But it's a fairly big mutational leap from apes to people
for a virus to make. Most of the studies done seem to agree that the virus
was already in the human population somewhere between 1930 and 1950 which
kinda rules out 'genetic engineering' because we didn't even know what DNA
looked like until '52. The first proven case was a man in Africa who died
in '58 or '59. Samples of his blood and tissues were preserved (because his
case was so strange) and it was tested (and found positive) for HIV in the
early 80's. There was also the case of a British Merchant Seaman who died
of some strange disease in the late 40's and, from his medical records, he
had all of the classical AIDS symptoms. Nothing of him was preserved, so it
can't be 'proven' that he actually had AIDS, but it seems a safe bet.
The difficult part of tracking a virus such as HIV is that a person can
carry it (and spread it) for years and years and *years* before it becomes
active. And that makes the 'infection chain' a hopeless jumble since it's
nearly impossible to determine who infected whom.

The 9th Marine Exp Bgde was sent to cover for us at Danang.
Firts time for'em at the hutch in South East Asia, in order to
cover for us at Danang airfields.

Class of '66-'67 and '68-'69. We were 'attached' (logistically) to the
101'st, but we were hooched up in Cam Ranh (the 'Secret City' <g>) and our
command chain and mission profiles came down through MAC-V-SOG (G-2) out of
Saigon. We got to wear the patch, but we never got to go out and play with
the 'regulars'. Too busy doing LRRP's and 'Black Ops' for the Company <g>

The only times we were as far north as Da Nang, we were also a couple
hundred clicks inland (up on the Trail) We never got to play with the other
guys all that much. A couple of times we hooked up with some Americal types
up in the Highlands and once we did a joint-op with some SEALS in the Delta
(Those SEALS are some good boys. That Trident gets the same respect from me
as I give to a Ranger flash) but, for the most part, our teams were about as
close to 'freelance' as you can get.

suppressants. What he's talking about is using a 'dead' virus to carry
specific HIV genetic codings into the body and trick the immune system into
thinking that these genetic markers are part of the adenovirus genotype.
Then the immune system will attack anything carrying these markers,
including the HIV virus.
It's actually more like the Salk vaccine for Polio.
