OT: My keyboard has started skipping letters ... |
Starting two days ago, no matter how hard I hit the keys, it skips. For
instance, in the last sentence it left out the letter about four times.
Also, when I click on a new page, about 1/3 of the time the page won't
come up.
Has anyone else experienced this? What causes this? Is it a form of
spyware corruption?
Any help is appreciated.

Pick your keyboard up! Turn it upside down. Perform the Heimlich maneuver
on its back. Observe the fallout. Now you know what probably caused it
even if it still skips. Coffee, popcorn, Dr. Pepper or beer! The refusal
to page is probably from a different cause, but who knows. Good luck!

It's called an old keyboard being abused by an incompetent hack writer.
Spend $9.95 on a new keyboard.

Not that I could expect a straight answer from you, but why would
several keys go bad all at the same time?
And why would the new pages not come up at the same time?

Actually, that's not at all uncommon. Keys are grouped in to sets, that
share common circuitry. If part of that circuitry goes bad, all the keys in
the set stop working at once.
And why would the new pages not come up at the same time?
Maybe somebody spilled some Coke on the keyboard and mouse at the same
time, and didn't tell you. (Seriuosly, that would account for what you're
describing.)

Thanks. I thought it might have been from eating a piece of watermelon
near the keyboard. But someone clued me into what happened. And now
it's fixed!
I had been signed up with a business message board group called
InstantBuzz. Their site went down. So I uninstalled that program. My
keyboard and my page downloading problems cleared up instantly!
Phew! I thought it might cost me another $300.

Because the keys are linked together electrically in an x/y matrix. You'll
never see just one key go bad on a keyboard, unless something was spilled
on just that key.
Try a new keyboard - and see a shrink about your paranoia.

If it's cordless, change the batteries and check the location of the
receiver.
Check the cord (plugged in, not torn or chewed through)
Run maintenance (virus, spyware, temp files, defrag, etc.)
Plug it into a different machine and see if it works, if you have one
available.
Open it up and clean it
Replace it
Replace the motherboard
Somewhere in that list is the solution.

LOL, this last one is a bit extreme. :-)
Other than that, great advice. Plugging it into a difference machine would
narrow it down immediately.

Awthrawthr would rather believe he/she has been singled out for retribution
because of his/her political beliefs. Too many TV movies and no knowledge
of electronics or the internet is my guess.

I had pondered the same. Anyone sternly fixated in his (alleged)
convicitions would not have to worry about 'attacks' or publicize
them-- they'd have bothered to protect themselves, in the first place.
It could have been the slobber from the excessive frothing-at-the
mouth activity in which has rendered his keyboard disfunctional.

Yeah. Hopefully he won't get to that point. If all else fails, it could
be a bad port.
It probably just needs a good cleaning.
