On 11/12/03, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution posted an article
by RAYMOND J. KEATING (a columnist for Newsday) titled: "Debate
Over Abortion One That Won't Go Away ." Go to:
http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/1103/14special_keating.html
________________________________________________________________________
Excerpts:
"Many people wish to avoid the wrenching issue of abortion. They
apparently want the entire topic just to go away and be removed
from public discourse. That must not happen, though, as few other
issues say as much about our society and how we value human life.
"In particular, I've come across individuals who say they are pro-
choice but seem uneasy about their position. That's understandable,
since abortion, after all, is the taking of a human life. In a
nation that places such great emphasis on the care of children --
with some asserting that it takes a village to raise a child --
there were 256 abortions per 1,000 live births in 1999, according
to the latest estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Except for the most militant pro-abortion forces, this stagger-
ing number must nag, to one degree or another, at people's con-
sciences. Most pro-choicers, for example, proclaim that they
want to make abortion safe and rare. But why rare? Perhaps
they recognize that abortion is more than just a medical proce-
dure; that in most cases, it's morally wrong.
[...]
On the Senate floor earlier this year, Senate Majority Leader
Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), who is a surgeon, described the grisly act:
"It begins by turning the living fetus around, partially pulling
it out of the uterus feet first, and then thrusting the base of
its skull deeply with 8-inch long scissors. Next the scissors are
forcibly opened in the skull of the fetus to create a hole large
enough to evacuate the brain and the contents of the head.
Once the skull is collapsed, the now dead infant is pulled
from the uterus through the birth canal."
If that were not bad enough, consider what Frist went on to
point out: "This procedure is most commonly performed in
the second trimester of pregnancy, from 20 to 27 weeks.
How developed is a fetus during this period? The survival
rate for premature babies born at 23 weeks is 30 to 50
percent. For those born at 24 to 25 weeks, the survival rate
is between 60 percent and 90 percent. Experts also believe
that an infant begins to feel pain at this stage and, in fact,
does feel horrific pain during the forcible manipulations and
the stabbing of the skull during partial-birth abortion."
Let all of this sink in a moment. I have to fight off tears
when I do.
[...]
Some argue that abortion is a constitutional right. For
example, New York City Rep. Carolyn Maloney said, "The
question is not whether the bill is unconstitutional,
because it clearly is." A federal judge in New York City
last week issued a temporary restraining order declaring
the law unconstitutional. I've read the U.S. Constitution
many times, but have never come across a right to
abortion. Instead, the U.S. Supreme Court manufactured
this so-called right some three decades ago.
[...]
________________________________________________________________________
Papa Jack comments:
All abortions are barbaric -- particularly those which
aren't somewhat justified by some emergency. The partial-
birth abortion is a especially gruesome abortion procedure
(as described above by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist,
who is a surgeon).
Why can't the Pro-Aborts see how offensive this procedure
is to normal folks?

gold, I WAS on your side, but you seem to have a propensity for attacking

Now, to the statement. How is it murder if the baby is going to die seconds
after leaving the womb anyway, or if it's ALREADY DEAD? Those are the
reasons I see as being justifiable ones for abortion. Keep your facts

Oh, and Kris, being a moderate isn't easy, as I tend to get slammed by
people on BOTH sides of the issue.I get it frrom the pro-choice bunch
because I think a woman should take resposibility for the results of her

legitimate reason for having an abortion done. Swinging too far toward
EITHER side is the route to unimaginably horrible things, and I don't want

Who cares what you think is "justifiable"? You anti-choice zealots have no
right or business interfering with someone else's sexual or reproductive
choices and decisions, people you don't even know. Mind your own life.

Exactly Diane, I noticed the same thing.

Oh, please! You came to his defence more than once, and NOW you're
noticing the moronic dumbfuck he is? (Oh, wait, maybe it's because he
dissed you.)

Oh, and Kris, being a moderate isn't easy, as I tend to get slammed by
people on BOTH sides of the issue.I get it frrom the pro-choice bunch
because I think a woman should take resposibility for the results of her
poor choices. I get it from the pro-life side because I see defect in the
fetus that are not going to allow the baby to live outside the womb as a
legitimate reason for having an abortion done. Swinging too far toward
EITHER side is the route to unimaginably horrible things, and I don't

want

to end up either like Gold, or Ray. They are both HIGHLY extremeist.

Just what is your definition of 'moderate'? You seem to be claiming
to be one. You apparently wouldn't even allow an abortion to save the
life of the woman. That's 'moderate'?

Larry, I have also stated that to save the mother's life it is justifiable
(Such as Ectopics and the like) but those instances are few and far berween,
and few pro-lifers even bat an eye at those instances.

Ah, Diane, you keep bringing up examples where the embryo will NEVER
survive. You are 'moderate' in the same sense that Manson could call
himself 'moderate' compared to the Green River Killer.

Well, I guess I've been told. That's just another reason why my
statement stands true, Diane.
You've already shown you don't want debate - you, Bobby, golddodge,
and a raft of others. Don't get whiny now because I refuse to make
nice after you prove that you can't make a point. You don't
automatically get respect, you earn it - and you've not been trying
very hard, so don't ***** and moan when you don't get any.
I'll treat anyone with respect right up until they resort to
name-calling or other crap, and then why would I bother? See Bobby's
long history for an example. He's WAY past redemption.
