It was a seminal moment in realpolitik and political theatre.
Have the decency to properly quote the Great Communicator:
Ronald Reagan (11 August 1984)" "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased
to tell you today that I have just signed legislation that will
outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."
One presumes there were brown stains throughout the Kremlin
shortly thereafter. Nobody pissed on Reagan, NOBODY. Air
traffic controller, Granada insurgent, or Muammar Kaddhafi - no
popularity polls, no focus groups, no "advisors..." If you
pissed on Reagan he cut your throat. That is what America is all
about. "Don't tread on me." We lost that and now we are lost in
turn. The glory that was Rome was bloodily crushed by barbarians
with stirrups and recurved bows while effete togas held meetings.
Vote for Kerry! Pull America's plug and be done with it.

And across the US, because the USSR did, and does, have the ability to
make a nuclear strike very painful.

Given his selling of weapons to America's enemies in order to fund a
war of terrorism, I am under no delusion that Reagan had anything
resembling a concern for anybody but himself.

That is what America is all

One of those things that depends on how you measure
it.
If one takes his complete voting record(all issues, all
years in office) into account, Kerry has been a middle
of the road Democrat. The same is true of Edwards.
If one looks only at the last year, both Kerry and
Edwards look extremely liberal. (That that is so
may have something to do with the fact that they
missed so many votes campaigning.)

Sadly, I almost hope Kerry _does_ get elected so the liberals can
see the mess he makes of things.

That's the sad part. They won't see. They will only see what they want
to see, and they will find some way to blame the mess Kerry will surely
make on the previous (Bush) administration or the Republicans in
Congress.

Well just who do you think got us into this mess? (Hint: Rhetorical
question.)

Yes it is!
The weaknesses of the congress and the last administration caused our
enemies to get brave enough to take us on. The present administration
is trying to correct that problem. No enemy will take on someone who
will whack them back harder like Bush did. They just have to know it first.

The weaknesses of the congress and the last administration caused our

It started when 200+ marines were killed in Lebanon and Reagan meekly
ran away.
It continued when Clinton sent missile to destroy chemical weapons
factories and Republicans attacked him.
America's enemies learned that Republicans care more about power than
they care about America.

The present administration
is trying to correct that problem.

That's an outright lie. The present administration is doing nothing
to deal with America's enemies.

No enemy will take on someone who
will whack them back harder like Bush did.

Obviously one of you didn't listen to John Edward's speech. He subscribed
to the pre-emptive strike policy of the Bush administration when dealing
with Terrorists of all stripes - especially alQuaida. Amazing speech for a
Democrat who voted against funding our troops just like Kerry did. Two of
the four who voted against the 87 Billion funding! What a Flop!

We see the rhetorical part went right over your head. And btw, Bush
"whacked" the wrong people. Isn't that pretty obvious by now, even to you
neocon wingnut Bush bootlickers and lapdogs?

That's what Clinton did. He reaped the goodies of what Reagan and
GHWBush spent 12 years setting up. The false claims of a dying economy
caused people to believe the slight 'leveling off' in the early nineties
was an impending depression. In actuality Clinton squandered what the
Reagan/Bush terms had created. I am so thankful that the collapsed of a
false economy happened before Clinton left office. That should have
been enough proof for anyone what was going on but the left in this
country, led by the media didn't even notice when the down started.
We have a very good economic upswing right now and if Kerry is elected
he will get credit for it without deserving it. That's the democrat way!

Is that why there was a recession when Clinton took office?

Yeah, those eight years of national prosperity after the Reagan/Bush
recession were a real problem.
