I'm starting to think that Americans need to stop thinking of abortion in a
legal sense. There is a cultural attitude shared by too many people in this
country that abortion is a perfectly legitimate form of birth control. I
believe that abortion is wrong and imoral, however, I'm no longer sure that
the right to an abortion should be illegal. People need to have their
attitudes changed in the direction of cherishing parenthood instead of
viewing children as an unwanted burden.

an ugly form of it; and I do remember the RCC being regretably involved
in the pro-life movement. I don't think good birth control can help you

(condoms, pills, etc.) as a PREVENTITIVE measure.

There's certainly the state v. religion angle. The state (South
Dakota) is saying that life begins at conception, but many, if not most
protestant churches believe that life begins at 3months,so an abortion
in the first trimester is not murder. If the country (USA) goes along
the idea that life begins at conception, there could be court battles
as this definitely interferes with religious beliefs and forces women
to adhere to the state's definition, which is also the Roman Catholic
and fundamentalist, born-again Christians belief, and opinion which is
not held by all religions.

Tuco, that is why it is a political distraction point. Trying to ban
abortion completely makes for a political suicide most cases, but it
does pander well to individuals who don't know better, but think they
know what is best for the world. These individuals swallow GOP
material hook, line, and sinker, thinking some laws that run against
cultural norms, is going to make a difference. Abortion is a political
quagmire. Not surprisingly, these same individuals also believe Iraq
is a good idea to.
One thing you can't do in a democracy is try to impose laws that a
majority of people won't follow, to restrict their behavior. There is
reasons, for example, why Prohibition was reversed. The battle ground
for abortion is in the cultural values of society and what people
freely choose to follow, not in some laws. Want to win in this battle?
Well, do it in a forum for public debate, like here, rather than by
means of law. A lot of pro life side are ignorant of this, or caught
up in some sort of political hypnotic state of a pharisaical crusader.
Why this message is posted in the atheist, and life origins discussion
forum is beyond me.
