Prayer rally to protest ACLU suit |
Once again, the ACLU finds itself on the wrong end of an issue. Does the
concept of 'decency' hold any bearing with this organization?
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061011/COUNTY10/610110390/1006/NEWS
Mt. Juliet official wants religion to be part of school
The date is marked on Peggy Clark's calendar: 6 p.m. Oct. 24, Lakeview
Elementary School in Mt. Juliet.
That's when and where Clark plans to participate in a prayer rally organized
by a Mt. Juliet city commissioner in support of the school in a legal battle
over separation of church and state.
"I understand there's a separation of church and state, but schools are a
different thing; somebody needs to teach those kids," said Clark, 67, who
said her education in public schools started with a prayer.
"A lot of people I know object to it, but if your school had more of what I
was raised with, we wouldn't have all this mess that we have now. We
wouldn't have guns in schools."
The prayer rally is organized by Mt. Juliet Commissioner Glen Linthicum, who
said it was time for the community to take a stand against what he called a
"frivolous" lawsuit recently filed by the Tennessee chapter of the American
Civil Liberties Union against the Wilson County school district.
The suit, filed on behalf of a local family, alleges that religious
activities endorsed by Lakeview Elementary resulted in constitutional
violations.
"What I hope to accomplish is to send a clear message to ACLU and the rest
of Tennessee that Mt. Juliet stands for traditional values in America and
that ACLU needs to ply their trade elsewhere," Linthicum said.
"This is an important fundamental question that faces America today, the
attack on traditional values in America. Are we going to allow our heritage
to be suppressed by a progressive minority?"

WTF is wrong with you???
I can buy a book on how to make bombs. I can legal subscribe to a
magazine that tells me how to grow marajuna.
Are you an illiterate hick?
No, I'm a published author. And you are someone who snips points he
can't argue against in favor of silly little insults.
Yes, I make typos. I posted that message last night after a long day
at work. Mea Culpa. Now, address the point. This nation allows the
publication of material that informs about or advocates acts that are
illegal. NAMBLA, repugnant as they are, is protected under this
provision of law.
Unless you write a book on safecracking (for example) and include a
clear invitation to go out and steal, you're in the clear. The courts
ruled that NAMBLA did not incite or encourage crimes, but only
advocated changing the laws.

I have a functioning brain, meaning that, unlike you, I'm capable of

Talking about it is not unconstitutional, nor against the law. If you wish

Shaddup *****!
http://www.nostatusquo.com/ACLU/Rage/NAMBLARAGEPAGE.html
BOSTON -- The American Civil Liberties Union will represent a group that
advocates sex between men and boys in a lawsuit brought by the family of
a slain 10-year-old.
The family of Jeffrey Curley of Cambridge said the North American
Man/Boy Love Association and its website which is now offline incited
the attempted molestation and murder of the boy on Oct. 1, 1997.
One of two men convicted in the killing, Charles Jaynes, 25, reportedly
viewed the group's website shortly before the killing, and also had in
his possession some of NAMBLA's publications. Also convicted in the
killing was 24-year-old Salvatore Sicari.
The ACLU said the case, filed in federal court in mid-May, involves
issues of freedom of speech and association.
"For us, it is a fundamental First Amendment case," John Roberts,
executive director of the Massachusetts branch of the ACLU, told Boston
Globe Wednesday. "It has to do with communications on a website, and
material that does not promote any kind of criminal behavior whatsoever."
ACLU officials said NAMBLA members deny encouraging coercion, rape or
violence.
Attorney Lawrence Frisoli, who represents the Curleys, said he is glad
the ACLU is defending NAMBLA, because he has had trouble locating the
group's members.
Harvey Silverglate, an ACLU board member, said Wednesday that the
group's attorneys will try to block any attempt by the Curleys to get
NAMBLA's membership lists, or other materials identifying members.
The ACLU also will act as a surrogate for NAMBLA, allowing its members
to defend themselves in court while remaining anonymous.According to the
Globe, NAMBLA officials in the past have said their main goal is the
abolition of age-of-consent laws that classify sex with children as rape.
At two separate trials last year, prosecutors said Jaynes and Sicari
were sexually obsessed with the boy, lured him from his Cambridge
neighborhood with the promise of a new bike, and then smothered him with
a gasoline-soaked rag when he resisted their sexual advances. They then
stuffed him into a concrete-filled container and dumped it into a Maine
river.
Sicari, convicted of first-degree murder, is serving a life sentence
without the possibility of parole. Jaynes' second-degree murder and
kidnapping convictions enable him to seek parole in 23 years.
The Curleys last week were awarded $328 million by a superior court jury
in a civil suit against Jaynes and Sicari.
