Pro-Life Women Are Now the Majority. Many Are Tired of Babies Being Chopped Up Like Salami! |
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20030701-115636-9509r.htm
The balance between pro-choice women and women who say abortion should
be outlawed or severely restricted is shifting toward the pro-life
side, bumping that group into the majority in the debate over
reproductive rights, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-one percent of women surveyed by the Center for the
Advancement of Women said the government should prohibit abortion or
limit it to extreme cases, such as rape, incest, or life-threatening
complications.
The findings, with a 3 percent margin of error for the 1,000 women
surveyed, tips the scale from the last sampling in 2001, when 45
percent of women sided against making abortion readily available or
imposing only mild restrictions. Only 30 percent support making it
generally available, down from 34 percent in 2001, the survey found.

Sounds like propaganda *****.
Why? Because you don't like it?
Let's put this in contest. Both Bush Jr.'s wife and his mother Barbara
have
been on record as being pro a woman's right to choose [SIC].
So what?
And President Bush is not a Jr. However Al Gore is a Jr.

No, because the poll is *****. I've seen polls which dispute it. Given
that half of Republican women support choice, it's obviously fixed.

Bush Sr., while a poor President, didn't ruin this country the way W
has. We can only wish the two were alike. We wouldn't be better off

Can you actually give some examples to support your claim?
After all, what could be worse than the New York Times and their
recent scandal?
The NY Times had a dishonest reporter working for them, but for a
long time, they were UNAWARE of his dishonesty. When it came out, the
man was summarily fired. I haven't always agreed wit NY times editorial
positions (although I often *have*, too, depending on the issue and the
stance)... but they seem always to have striven for integrity.
As for the Washington Times -- i subscribed to it for about 7 years,
and KNEW that it would always provide a direct insight to the RRR cult's
thinking and agenda. Every day. Incessantly. There is NOTHING
onbective about that paper. Even the news stories headlines are
constantly slaned to fit their obvious agenda of opposing many basic and
reasonable individual liberties.
The difference between the Washington Times and the NY Times is
nigh-and-day.

Almost anyone can find anything wrong with any media outlet. Their
objective is to "sell" news.
Be it CNN, Fox News (my personal favorite), NBC, CBS, Washington Post, New
Journal
The object is to sell. And all of them have one thing in common, and there
isn't a media outlet out there that you can say doesn't do this.
They all start their headlines with something bad. Why? Because that is
what sells.
Now as far as the Washington Times goes, I personally do not see anything at
all different in their reporting style from anyone else.
Now, getting back to what got this started. The poll taken. Leave out the
fact that it was the Washington Times for a moment and show how the poll is
wrong.

No point. I have enough experience with the Washington Times

I wouldn't put it past them to issue a headline reading "LEFT WING TO
BLAME
FOR SHUTTLE TRAGEDY",
What is so different in that, than the term "right wing conspiracy"?
It happens on all sides.
which then goes on to talk about how the Shuttle's
left wing was damaged, causing the Shuttle to explode on re-entry.
Here is the challenge
Leave out "Washington Times" and attack the issue which is the poll. And
demonstrate how it is wrong.
Why is it, when a person can't debate the issue they attack the source
rather than the issue?
Is this some kind of trick to take focus away from the subject?

Leave out "Washington Times" and attack the issue which is the
poll.
And
demonstrate how it is wrong.
Leave out Washington Times and the poll disappears into
nothingness.
You can't refute the results of the poll. So like many other
liberals,
you
are switching to a low tactic..attack the source instead.
The poll is a fabrication of the Washington Times.
Problem is
You can't prove it. I gave you the opportunity and all you can do is
attack
the Washington Times. So I am sorry, but I find your claim baseless
and
rediculous. Until you can prove otherwise. As I said, prove it.
Leave
out
attacking the source and attack the subject instead.
The subject would not exist without the source.
The subject is the poll. I gave you a chance to show the poll being
wrong.
Just blasting the source means absolutely nothing. You had the chance,
you
couldn't step up to bat and refute the poll.
How can I refute a poll that doesn't exist?

Can you actually give some examples to support your claim?
After all, what could be worse than the New York Times and their

The NY Times had a dishonest reporter working for them, but for
a long time, they were UNAWARE of his dishonesty. When it came out,
the man was summarily fired. I haven't always agreed wit NY times

Actually, the reporter's dishonesty was know for some time before he

The difference between the Washington Times and the NY Times is
nigh-and-day.
Yes, a spokesman for the Times was quoted saying that diversity is
more important than quality and honesty in journalism. At least their

The balance between pro-choice women and women who say abortion
should be outlawed or severely restricted is shifting toward the
pro-life side, bumping that group into the majority in the debate
over reproductive rights, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-one percent of women surveyed by the Center for the
Advancement of Women said the government should prohibit abortion
or limit it to extreme cases, such as rape, incest, or
life-threatening complications.
Sounds like propaganda *****.
Let's put this in contest. Both Bush Jr.'s wife and his mother
Barbara have been on record as being pro a woman's right to choose.
Choose what?
Last I checked, neither Barbara Bush or Laura Bush is the President of
the United States.

So everyone's a statistical expert now?! If you actually READ what it says:
1) that it was sponsored by a pro-choice group (suggesting that the sample
would be reasonably random)
2) that the result was significant to p<0.03 i.e. 3% error margin (more than
adequate)
you would realise that it's of some note, and could semi-reasonably be
applied to a much wider group. But no, everyone's a smart ***** and only "A

If you read the actual results 81% said abortion should be available
(varying from generally, stricter than now, to only rape/incest/life of
woman etc). Of that
17% said it shouldn't be permitted at all.
(2% don't know)
It's interesting to note that sample size surveyed is less than half
the sample size surveyed for 2001....

Abortion rights
On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Supreme CourtÕs historic
decision in the Roe v. Wade case, the Center for Gender Equality survey
registered a decline in support for abortion rights among American
women. Only 30% think abortion should be generally available, down from
34% just two years before. Nineteen percent think abortion should be
available, but under stricter limits than it is now, about equivalent to
the 17% who held this view in early 2001. Half of women (51%) now say
they would like to see very strict limits on abortionÑ34% who think it
should only be permitted in cases of rape, incest and to save the
womanÕs life and 17% who think abortion should never be permitted.
Two years ago, 45% of women preferred either of these two kinds of very
strict limitation
on abortion.
Table 5: Trend in Women's Views on Abortion
2003 2001
Should be generally available 30% 34%
Should be available under stricter limits 17 19
Should only be available in cases of rape,
incest, or to save the woman's life 34 31
Should not be permitted at all 17 14
Don't know 2 2
Number of interviews 1,000 2,329
There is potential for further change in womenÕs feelings about the
abortion issue. A large majority of women (79%) say they never have
second thoughts about their own opinion. However, 28% of the women who
think abortion should be available but with greater restrictions than
under current law also say they feel uncertain expressing this opinion
on the abortion issue. In contrast, only 16% of other women say they
are uncertain about their feelings on the abortion issue (19% of those
who say abortion should be generally available, 15% of those who think
it should only be legal in the case of rape, incest, or to save the
womanÕs life, and 14% of those who think abortion should be illegal).
As noted above, there is also less support now for abortion rights as a
top priority of a womenÕs movement. Two years ago, 49% of women thought
keeping abortion legal should be a top priority of a womenÕs movement.
Now, 41% say keeping abortion legal should be a top priority.
Most women in the survey could not name the case that prompted the
Supreme CourtÕs 1973 decision legalizing the right to abortion in the
United States. Forty-three percent correctly identified the case as
ÒRoe v. WadeÓ (or came close to offering the exact name), 2% gave some
other name, and 55% admitted outright that they did not know the name of
the case. 3 Women with pro-choice views on abortion were most
knowledgeable about this aspect of the Supreme Court decisionÑ54% knew
the name of the case, compared with 47% for women who want abortion to
be available but under stricter limits and 35% for women who would like
to see abortion access severely limited or banned completely.
Women do not seem particularly worried that the Supreme Court might take
some action over the next few years to make it harder for a woman to get
an abortion. Only 26% of women think this will happen and more than
half of these (54%) are women who would welcome stricter limits on
abortion. Among those who believe abortion should be generally
available to women who want it, 38% think the Supreme Court will soon
move to limit abortion access.
Women also do not believe the new Congress will do less than the last
Congress to benefit women. Only 13% of women hold this view, similar to
the 10% who hold the opposite viewÑthat the new Congress will do more to
benefit women than was accomplished in the previous session. Most
women, 64%, think this CongressÕs actions on behalf of women will be
about the same as the last CongressÕs.
Affluent women and well-educated women are more worried about the impact
on women of the changed political climate in Washington. But even among
college graduates, only a quarter of women (25%) say they think the new
Congress will do less to benefit women. Among Democratic women, only
21% think the new Congress will do less.

So everyone's a statistical expert now?! If you actually READ
what
it
says:
1) that it was sponsored by a pro-choice group (suggesting that
the
sample
would be reasonably random)
2) that the result was significant to p<0.03 i.e. 3% error
margin
(more
than
adequate)
you would realise that it's of some note, and could
semi-reasonably
be
applied to a much wider group. But no, everyone's a smart *****
and
only
"A
little over 500 women don't approve of abortion"...
If you read the actual results 81% said abortion should be
available
(varying from generally, stricter than now, to only
rape/incest/life
of
woman etc). Of that
17% said it shouldn't be permitted at all.
(2% don't know)
The major point is that 51% of women don't agree with the pro-choice
stance.
That is NOT what the survey said.
No, you're right, it was actually more than that since 17% said it
shouldn't
be available at all,
Thus only 17% were anti-choice. And 80% plus were pro-choice. (I didn't
see anything in the survey of numbers who wanted to force pregnancies to
be aborted, but I did see there were 17% like yourself who wanted to
force pregnancies to continue).
Why do you persist in snipping important parts of what people say? What you
fail to acknowledge in what I said is the other 51% who believe that the
current free availability of abortions is wrong, and that either it should
only be available in extreme cases, or that the current laws should be
tightened, or doesn't that register on your tunnel-visioned opinions?

I didn't.
I addressed the important point at issue, and I quoted the comment on
that issue, and pointed out that only 17% were anti-choice (insisted
that all women should be legally compelled to continue their pregnancies
whether they wished to or not) and 80%+ were pro-choice (accepted or
favoured the right of the pregnant person to choose for themsleves
whether to terminate or continue the pregnancy).
I hate to break it to you, but another 51% you fail to consider properly
believe that there is too much choice just now, and are in favour of
removing the degree of choice there is.
False.
Why don't you look at the statistics for yourself.
About 80% of people polled agreed that women should not all be forced to
continue their pregnancies under all circumstances.
About 80% of those polled, therefore, gave a pro-choice view.

What I said isn't false - I stated facts directly from the article. The 51%
I quoted believe that abortion should not be available in all circumstances.
Try again... that isn't what you claimed before...
