Excerpts:
"President Bush bypassed the Senate on a high-profile
judicial nomination yesterday for the second time in
five weeks and seated William H. Pryor Jr., the Ala-
bama attorney general and an outspoken opponent of
abortion, as an appeals court judge through 2005.
"Pryor is among six of Bush's appeals court nominees
who have been blocked from confirmation votes by
delaying tactics of Senate Democrats who contended
the nominees are extreme conservatives.
"He took the oath of office in Alabama last night and
joined the Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals for
the 11th Circuit, which covers Alabama, Georgia and
Florida.
"Pryor, 41, has described Roe v. Wade, the Supreme
Court's landmark abortion rights decision, as "the
worst abomination in the history of constitutional law."
In 1997, his first year as Alabama attorney general, he
invoked God's will while speaking at a Christian Coali-
tion rally to defend a state judge who posted the Ten
Commandments in his courtroom.
"...Bush made the election-year appointment during a
weeklong Senate recess. In an e-mailed announcement,
Bush said that Pryor's "impressive record demonstrates
his devotion to the rule of law and to treating all
people equally under the law," and that he "has rece-
ived wide-spread bipartisan support from those who
know him and know his record."
[...]
"Bush said in his statement that Pryor had enough sup-
porters to win confirmation if he had been allowed an
up-or-down vote. "But a minority of Democratic senators
has been using unprecedented obstructionist tactics to
prevent him and other qualified nominees from receiving
up-or-down votes," he said.

It's about time. The obstructionist tactics of the Dems
are an affront to our very constitutional system.
Last month Bush installed Charles W. Pickering Sr. on
the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit with a pre-
vious recess appointment. This well chosen appointment
will also help.
These two gentleman are highly qualified lawyers whose
only sins are to be conservatives. The Dim Dems are
trying to enforce a "liberals only" standard for all
federal judgeships to even be allowed the courtesy of
a Senate vote. As usual, the Dems rely most heavily
on their "Borking" tactics of half truths and lies.
Thanks for considering my point of view.

How many Clinton nominess did the Republicans block? Dozens.
How many of Bush's have been blocked? Less than a dozen.
Seems you are unable to remember history.

And what kind of screaming would we have gotten from PJ and his ilk if
Clinton had made a slew of recess appointments?
