On May 6, 2004, the Daily Mail posted an article titled:
"Abortion Soars in Quest for Perfect Babies." Go to:
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash4.htm

Excerpts:
"Those with conditions that can usually be corrected
medically - such as deformed feet and cleft lips and
palates - are instead being terminated.
"And the number of abortions of Down's syndrome babies
now outstrips live births, despite the fact that those
with the condition can live a long and fulfilling life.
As screening techniques improve, the trend is likely to
grow - horrifying pro-life campaigners.
"'These figures are symptomatic of a eugenic trend of
the consumerist society hell-bent on obliterating
deformity - and at what cost to its own humanity? '
said ethicist Jacqueline Laing, of London Metropolitan
University. 'We are obliterating the willingness of
people to accept disability. Babies are required to
fit a description of normality before they are allowed
to be born.'
"The figures for 2002 - the latest available - from the
Office for National Statistics show more women than ever
are choosing to terminate babies with potential handicaps,
with such abortions rising 8 per cent in a year.
[...]
"Church of England curate Joanna Jepson, who has spear-
headed calls for an investigation into the abortion of a
28-week-old unborn baby with cleft palate in Hereford-
shire in 2001, said: 'These statistics are horrifying
and show the highly consumerist attitude which is now
pervading human relationships.
[...]
"Doctors say improvements in technology, such as ultra-
sound and blood tests, have helped increase the number
of babies diagnosed with abnormality before birth. But
a number are disturbed that abortions are being carried
out on the grounds of the baby's serious disability when
in fact it has a correctable condition such as feet
abnormality or cleft lip.
[...]
"Trustee Nuala Scarisbrick said: 'This is straight-
forward eugenics. The message is being sent out to
disabled people that they should not have been born.
It is appalling and abhorrent.'
[...]
"Women aged 40 to 44 have the highest rate of abnor-
malities such as spina bifida, heart defects and
Down's syndrome in live and still births, at 160 per
10,000. This compares with 107 per 10,000 in those
aged 25 to 27.

Papa Jack comments:
I was only 9 or 10 years old when I first saw my new
cousin. He was born with both a double cleft lip and
a cleft palate. Needless to say, I was impressed.
My aunt came and stayed with us while she took him to
the plastic surgeon for a preliminary diagnosis. Now
my cousin is a well-known and very successful commer-
cial artist in a major city. And, he's one of my
favorite people in the whole world, with a great sense
of humor and a genius for creativity. He went thru
several operations as a child to correct his palate
and lip. Now his lip has a small scar -- that's all.
He even covers that up with an impressive mustache.
When I read articles like the one one above, I think
of my cousin. What a waste it would have been if my
aunt had decided she only wanted perfect babies.
Of course, that was in the days before the USSC decided
the Constitution gave women the "right" to kill their
unborn children.
Thanks for considering my point of view.

First of all, the Drudgereport did not say that the article title in
the Daily Mail was "Abortion Soars in Quest for Perfect Babies."
The Daily Mail is on-line. I could not find the original article.
Looks like more lies from the Anti-Abortionists.

I think that there would be no need to lie if there were just grounds
to ban abortion.
....

What a waste it would have been if my
aunt had decided she only wanted perfect babies.

People are not seeking perfect babies -- that is the Pro-Life
strawman. That is why you have to cite the Drudge Report rather than
the original news article -- you have to have the Pro-Life 'spin'
since the facts do not support your claims.

Of course, that was in the days before the USSC decided
the Constitution gave women the "right" to kill their
unborn children.

The United States Supreme Court has never decided that the
Constitution gave woman the right (or "right") to kill thier unborn
children. This is just another of the many Pro-Life lies.

There you go. The point I have made many times.

And he repeats it constantly. Without the lies, the pro-lifers have
nothing.

So your very first statement is an outright lie. The title of the Daily
Mail article is "Why late abortions must be terminated".

http://www.drudgereport.com/flash4.htm

"Abortion Soars in Quest for Perfect Babies" is Drudge's title.

Hero worship?

Impressive mustache? Do you have an altar to this guy in your bedroom?

When I read articles like the one one above, I think
of my cousin. What a waste it would have been if my
aunt had decided she only wanted perfect babies.

Needless to say that it would've been illegal and possibly fatal for her
to do so.

Drudge hasn't been doing to well lately getting things right, has he?

Lucky. Cleft palate is often fatal
