Wrong. The vast majority of people are more concerned with
which show to watch and which one to tape, when two favorite
TV shows are on at the same time, as they are about abortion.
Abortion is a NON-issue for them... about which they my provide
an opinion is asked, but otherwise couldn't care less about. Any
more than they care that doctors are able to set broken arms.
With the exception of a tiny faction of Anti-Choice activists, and
the Pro-Choice defenders of the remedy of abortion, abortion goes
pretty much ignored.
Arguing the abortion debate is pointless and futile, it will
never be resolved, neither group will claim an ultimate victory.
That's what many of the segregationists used to say, 40 and
more years ago, as they desperately tried to trivialize their
hatefulness towaed millions of people, and hoped that their
fair-minded opponents would be discouraged by such claims.
However, it's pretty hard to find a segregationist today, and a
couple of decades from now, Anti-Choice loons will be just as
scarce. Just as interracial marriage became a non-issue that
no one really opposes any more, the same will be true of
abortion.Anti-Choice's days are numbered, and extinction of
that loathsome agenda against America's women is inevitable.
Historical precedents bear that out solidly. Look at what's
happened to movements of repression in the USA since 1865 ---
-- Slavery -- EXTINCT
-- Opposition to Women's Suffage -- EXTINCT
-- Prohibition -- EXTINCT
-- Opposition to Birth-Control Pill -- EXTINCT
-- Segregation -- EXTINCT
-- Anti-Semitism -- ENDANGERED (Thankfully)
-- Anti-Choice (abortion) -- LAUGHINGSTOCK STATUS
-- Opposition to EQUAL Rights for Gays -- FADING FAST
Segregationists were a JOKE (i.e., "laughingstock status")
during the last few years before it became extinct. As opposition
to EQUAL rights for gays (with respect to housing, being parents,
marriage, and employment) continues to fade, the remaining
opponents first will become laughingstocks, and then that
hatefulness will end in extinction. constant consciousness-raising,
as is happening with tonight's "Primetime Thursday" episode on
ABC, featuring Rosie O'Donnell, is very helpful. (MOST of the
reporters and commentators in the MEDIA are INTELLIGENT...
with occasional exceptions, like George Will, who has a good IQ,
but wastes it on hyperconservatism.)
Historical precedents have CONSISTENTLY proven that
Americans OUTGROW movements of intolerance (such as ALL
of the above), and then REJECT them -- leaving them behind
FOREVER.
And THAT is EXTINCTION.
So you ask: how do we solve this problem?
The same way we solved the problem of *racial* bigotry. Keep
right on opposing the bigots at every turn until their hateful agenda
against women fades into permanent oblivion.
To solve the problem of abortion...
Abortion is not a problem. Ill-timed pregnancy is the problem.
And when those are unwanted, abortion CURES it. Abortion is
nothing more than a hugely-beneficial **remedy.**
...we must look to the source of the problem, to discover the
root problem.
Simple: BETTER sex educaltion. BETTER awareness of the
hazards of unprotected sex. BETTER practice of Safe Sex methods.
But the good news is -- when that fails, and unwanted pregnancy
occurs, safe and legal abortion is available upon request to all who
choose it.
[ ... ]
Yes, you may be saying that there are many reasons why
young women who do not wish to become pregnant, are becoming
pregnant, but all of these problems have the potential to be solved.
Of course! Simple: BETTER sex educaltion. BETTER awareness
of the hazards of unprotected sex. BETTER practice of Safe Sex
methods. And if those fail, safe and legal ACCESS to the remedy of
abortion. NO biggie. (AND -- **NO** one else's business but that of
the woman who may or may not be choosing it!)
For example, let's say that we have three women all of whom
are pregnant. Woman A was raped, Woman B has a child who
will have Down Syndrome and does not wish to deal with this burden,
Woman C [simply enjoys having casual sex]. All three wish to have
an abortion.
FINE. No problem. Next point? Do you have anything**relevant**
to say?
...we should focus our energy in solving the problems that has
caused these women to become pregnant in the first place. Let's
solve these problems by educating women about rape, and teaching
them how to protect themselves and be safe. We can make medical
advances to learn about and cure genetic diseases, treating them
in [fetuses], making [them] perfectly normal.
IF the advances are made, can give assuarance of a high likelihood
of success, and IF the woman *chooses* that. (Far simpler, and far
more sensible, in the meantime, however, is to make SURE that the
problems that can be caused by potential birth defests detected during
geatation won't happen, and cause lifelong unnecessary hardships -- by
choosing the remedy of abortion. (And after abortion, MOST women
just go on to have children later, whenever they're ready to. Ones
that would never have existed if the earlier abortion hadn't been the
option.
Let's look at the culture of our society that causes sexual inter-
course to be viewed as extemporaneous and inconsequetial, and
correct this deleterious socialization.
That's bullcrap! Between 95 and 99% of all sex is recreational,
and probably more than half of it is "casual" (as in, between
unmarried people). And NONE of it needs to be "consequential."
For those who practice Safe Sex methods well, it almost never is.
Sex is humanity's GREATEST form of recreation. (And it never
ceases toi amaze me when **busybodies** ignorantly and stupidly
WHINE about it!)
NO "corrections" are necessary. But better and more wide-
spread sex education, and better practice if Safe sex methods
are as necessary for not needing to remedy the unwanted medical
condition of ill-timed pregnancy as skiing safety measures are
necessary for not needing to remedy broken legs.
Disparaging ANY remedy is like shooting the messenger. And
NO remedy should EVER be denied to any person seeking it... no
questions asked.

Exactly. This is accepted as a legal right and is considered a
