Perhaps I should re-phrase that slightly:

Are atheists morons like the theists are morons?

Now as anyone conscious is aware, Catholics are
the red-headed step child of America's religious
Reich. The fundies don't like them -- even preach
against their "false religion" -- and Catholic ideology
has very often been trampled in favor of Protestant
fundamentalism.

Example: Evolution. The Catholic church has no
issue with the teaching of evolution, granting our
school children the knowledge necessary to compete
in a science-based world. Yet the religious Reich
forces Catholics to set aside their beliefs in favor
of the Creationism/Intelligent Design political
agenda of the fundamentalists.

Now there's a reason why I'm using the example of
the Catholic morons, there's a connection here. You
see, the Pope is on his way out. Maybe not today,
maybe not for a while, but he's already 84 years old
and he has no "Long Term" prospects. The point is,
that makes a lot of atheist happy.

That's stupid. That's idiotic. That's self-destructive.

Despite fantasies, the Pope is the religious leader
of some 1 billion Catholics, and all by himself
qualifies as the single loudest & most influential
anti-war voice on Earth. Obviously, the Bush mafia
would very much like to see a new Pope.

And it isn't just on the international scene where the
Pope has proven to be an obstacle to the wishes of
the Bush mafia. The efforts, the campaign to get the
Vatican to denounce (and even excommunicate)
pro-life politicians -- Democrats -- before the U.S.
election wasn't exactly subtle.

Think about that. The Republicans actually campaigned
for the Vatican to interfere in the internal politics of our
sovereign nation. The Republicans asked foreigners to
interfere in a U.S. election. Given success, given a
different Pope, not only might they have succeeded in
increasing their dominance over the U.S. government,
but they would have eliminated an "unpleasant" social
problem as well.

That is to say, it would have been the first step towards
utterly destroying the Catholic church in the United States,
eliminating the single biggest obstacle to fundamentalist
ambitions.

I mean, get serious here. Do you think that turning the
Catholic church against pro-choice Democrats would
have turned many Catholics against those Democrats?

So don't I.

But it's not like that would endear the Vatican to the
fundamentalists. Just the opposite. It would hand them
a reason to fear the Vatican, to renew & invigor their
war on Catholicism.

Catholic politicians would instantly become Vatican
proxies. They could no longer vote the best interest of
their districts, or the nation as a whole. Catholics who
served in Politics would serve at the pleasure of the
Pope, supporting what the Pope supports or quickly
being denounced & even excommunicated by their
foreign master.

It would be anti-American to place a Catholic in any
position of power.

Another, perhaps just as likely, scenario is that the
Catholic church instantly becomes irrelevant in
America. Politicians go about their business unchanged,
the voters still vote the same way they always have,
and somewhere off in the background the Vatican is
issuing pronouncements & excommunications while
nobody is listening.

Either way, the only organized obstacle to Protestant
fundamentalism is gone.

Yeah, the Pope is a communist-obsessed idiot with some
really archaic (and down-right malicious) ideas on
homosexuality, abortion and a whole lot of other things.
But he's also the man who refused to be George Bush's
*****.

Bush would very much like to see him gone.

Think about that, especially if you find yourself agreeing
with him.

Thank you for this.
And you are right, most atheists are morons. Catholics represent the
most liberal and forward-thinking branch of Christianity. They are
leaps and bounds ahead of most protestants. The two are not the same.
And most atheists would do well to make common cause with the
Catholics, especially in their battles against right wing nut groups
like the Southern Baptists in the U.S. and other fundie retards. But
atheists don't see this because, as you say, they are morons.
