Why should I be interested in supporting a channel I never watch?

Two reasons ...

1) You can be fully assured that the only affect this will practically
have is that you'll pay just as much money for less channels, or
a bit less money for a lot less channels. IE the cable companies
are going to manage to profit *them* and not you

Well, yes, the current system is a scam, but that's really beside the
point.

2) Because a lot of new channels which might even turn out to be pretty
good/popular only ever get picked up because they're being
subsidized by other channels in terms of the cable companies $$$.
IE hypothetically some channel in the future that you would have
really liked would simply never exist because there isn't the money
to get it off the ground.

The only problem I have here is that 99.99% of the stuff on cable is
garbage. Once in a while something comes along that's worth watching.
But for me, it's quite literally less than one show/series per year.

Given the incredibly poor signal-to-noise ratio, I'd rather just scrap
the whole thing and go with movies (which I pay for on a per-view basis)
and novels.

Put my money where my mouth is? Sure. When I moved into this
apartment, I tested the cable spigots and found one that worked and I've
been using it to this day. I don't pay for cable. Apparently, I'm
leeching it off the landlord (and yes, I've told him; he doesn't seem to
care). But if I had to pay for it, I don't think I'd have cable any
more. For Galactica -- assuming I even knew about it -- I'd just buy
the DVDs.

I realize they're both fairly indirect, and I did originally support
the a la carte idea but now i have to say i like the current system.
If I trusted the companies to be looking out for *us* I might think
differently.

I've never thought companies would (or should) be looking out for us. I
just don't want to pay for stuff I won't ever use. I'd *much* rather
Moore made a theatrical Battlestar Galactica trilogy so I could just pay
for my ticket (or buy the DVDs).

If you're not paying for it then quit whining about it.
