Blogger Jon Perr noticed something interesting about Friday's edition
of the New York Times. There were no less than *seven* stories about
Bush administration misdeeds and scandals.

"The commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks said on
Thursday that it was pressing the White House to explain
why the Bush administration had blocked thousands of pages
of classified foreign policy and counterterrorism documents
from former President Bill Clinton's White House files from
being turned over to the panel's investigators."

"A senior White House official and the former Medicare
administrator, central figures in a controversy over the
cost of the new prescription drug law, declined to appear
before a House committee Thursday, defying Democrats who
had sought their testimony."

"A federal judge ruled Thursday that the Bush administration
must release thousands of pages of documents related to a
White House task force that met behind closed doors to
develop a national energy policy."

Here's the BIG one:

"Prosecutors investigating whether someone in the Bush
administration improperly disclosed the identity of a C.I.A.
officer [Valerie Plame] have expanded their inquiry to
examine whether White House officials lied to investigators
or mishandled classified information related to the case,
lawyers involved in the case and government officials say."

"In short, CNN passed along a smear that it attributed to
the White House. When the smear backfired, it declared
its previous statements inoperative and said the White
House wasn't responsible. Sound familiar?"

"Forty-five senators and 10 state attorneys general asked
the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday to withdraw
its proposal on how to regulate mercury emissions from coal-
fired power plants and replace it with a more stringent
proposal."

"A report released by a House committee on Thursday describes
how the Bush administration worked with the United States
chemical industry to undermine a European plan that would
require all manufacturers to test industrial chemicals for
their effect on public health before they were sold in
Europe."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the Bush administration

Former counterterrorism officials said at least half a dozen have left the

Papa Jack smiled:
You would quote Harold Meyerson? Go to:
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh071703.shtml
Excerpts:
"But readers, habits die hard in the press corps.
Instead of assembling a real critique of Bush-on-
Iraq, pundits are doing what they do best?they?re
presenting a mangled, simplified story, designed
to persuade you of their new vision. Result? Basic
facts are bent and discarded as they spin their
uranium-from-Niger parable. Here, for example, is
Harold Meyerson in this morning?s Washington Post:
MEYERSON (pgh 1): There are no stubborn facts
in the Bush White House, just stubborn men.
This is an administration that will not be
cowed by the truth.
(2) After all, it?s not as if the president?s
baseless assertion in his State of the Union
address that Iraq had sought to acquire 'yel-
lowcake' uranium from Niger was the last we
heard of this claim.
But of course, the president?s State of the Union
address didn?t mention uranium from Niger. And was
Bush?s assertion really 'baseless?' His statement
cited British intelligence, and as Glenn Frankel
reports in this morning?s Post, British intelli-
gence ? and Tony Blair ? still stand behind that
intelligence. But Meyerson doesn?t waste time with
that. He just says that the statement was 'baseless.'
But that is only the smallest part of Meyerson?s
rearrangement of facts. Just how malleable have
facts now become? Watch as he goes for ***** Cheney:
MEYERSON (2): After all, it?s not as if the
president?s baseless assertion in his State
of the Union address that Iraq had sought to
acquire ?yellowcake? uranium from Niger was
the last we heard of this claim. To be sure,
Colin Powell consciously excised it from the
bill of indictment he delivered to the U.N.
Security Council in early February. But it
popped up again as late as March 16, when
Cheney himself appeared on 'Meet The Press'
to make one more case for going to war.
Sadly, this statement is totally false. In fact,
Cheney wasn?t asked about Niger on Meet the Press.
Indeed, he wasn?t asked about uranium procurement
at all; the topic simply never came up. But so
what? The press has Brilliant Points to make, and
scribes are changing facts to make them. As he
continues, Meyerson lodges a serious charge ?
another charge which is totally bogus:
MEYERSON (3): By then, the International
Atomic Energy Agency had publicly reported
that the documents purportedly recording
the Iraq-Niger transaction were forgeries ?
a conclusion, we now know, that the CIA and
the State Department shared?
(4) But when ?Meet The Press? host Tim Russert
asked the vice president about the IAEA?s con-
clusions, Cheney bulled ahead with a certitude
born of?well, of the political necessity for
certitude. He disagreed with the IAEA, he said,
adding, wrongly, ?You?ll find that the CIA, for
example, and other key parts of our intelligence
community disagree.?
To state the obvious, anyone reading that passage
would assume that Cheney 'disagreed with the IAEA'
about the forged documents. But Meyerson?s plain
implication is totally false. In fact, just as with
uranium procurement, the forged documents were never
discussed at any point on this program....
[...]
...Sorry. No such statement ever occurred. That
damaging statement by Harold Meyerson is completely
and wholly invented."
So, why would you quote this Harold Meyerson?

article by Stephen F. Hayes titled: "The Clinton
View of Iraq-al Qaeda Ties." Go to:

____________________________________________________________________________
Excerpts:
"The Clinton administration heavily emphasized
the Iraq link to justify its 1998 strikes against
al Qaeda. Just four days before the embassy bomb-
ings, Saddam Hussein had once again stepped up his
defiance of U.N. weapons inspectors, causing what
Senator Richard Lugar called another Iraqi "crisis."
Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering, one of
those in the small circle of Clinton advisers
involved in planning the strikes, briefed foreign
reporters on August 25, 1998. He was asked about
the connection directly and answered carefully.
[...]
"PICKERING: '...We see evidence that we think is
quite clear on contacts between Sudan and Iraq.
In fact, al Shifa officials, early in the comp-
any's history, we believe were in touch with
Iraqi individuals associated with Iraq's VX
program.
"Ambassador Bill Richardson, at the time U.S.
ambassador to the United Nations, echoed those
sentiments in an appearance on CNN's "Late
Edition with Wolf Blitzer," on August 30, 1998.
He called the targeting "one of the finest hours
of our intelligence people."
"'We know for a fact, physical evidence, soil
samples of VX precursor--chemical precursor at
the site,' said Richardson. 'Secondly, Wolf,
direct evidence of ties between Osama bin Laden
and the Military Industrial Corporation -- the
al Shifa factory was part of that....
[...]
"And Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut Democrat and
presidential candidate, discussed the connections
in an appearance last week on MSNBC's 'Hardball
with Chris Matthews.' Said Lieberman: 'I want to
be real clear about the connection with terrorists.
I've seen a lot of evidence on this. There are
extensive contacts between Saddam Hussein's gov-
ernment and al Qaeda and other terrorist groups....'"

Let's review your "damn good quote."
"The only unequivocally good policy option
before the American people is to dump the
president who got us into this mess, who
had no trouble sending our young people to
Iraq but who cannot steel himself to face
the Sept.11 commission alone."
Your "damn good quote" does drip with emotion and
rankor -- but, I can find very little rationale.
Examine the false assumptions:
1) "the president ... got us into this mess,"
COMMENT: This blames President Bush for ALL the
circumstances which caused the Clinton adminis-
tration and the U.N. to characterize Saddam
Hussin's Iraq as a "rogue nation."
COMMENT: This implies that freeing the people of Iraq
from the terrible despotism of Saddam Hussin was not a
worthwhile thing to do.
2) "...who had no trouble sending our young people
to Iraq..."
COMMENT: Meyerson would have us believe -- without a
scintilla of evidence -- that President Bush is uncaring
and unthinking about the welfare of the military troops.
3) "...but who cannot steel himself to face
the Sept.11 commission alone."
COMMENT: Again, Meyerson makes assertions without evidence.
In this case, he implies the President is a coward.
The fact that the situation if frought with unwanted
possibilities of setting binding precidents on the
constitutional issues of separation of powers between the
Executive Branch and Congress.
We should also note the unseeming eagerness some Democrats
have shown in trying to use the hearings to embarass the
President to impact on the elections.

sloppiness on Meyerson's part?

...as those who thought Iraq had WMD and ties to Al
Qaeda and all the rest.

Now who was sloppy with the facts?

Your boy in the White House, along with his sycophants.

On December 22, 2003, the Command-Post posted an
article by Stephen F. Hayes titled: "The Clinton
View of Iraq-al Qaeda Ties." Go to:

http://www.command-post.org/2_archives/009221.html

The favorite non-sequitur of Bush supporters - "it's all Clinton's
fault". If that is the case, why did Condi Rice lie so blatently last
Thursday? Why does the current White House continue to lie, obfuscate
and stonewall.
*****, they weren't even going to release terrorism-related documents
from the Clinton Administration. You'd think they'd be falling all
over themselves to get the goods on the Clintons.

So, why would you quote this Harold Meyerson?

Because it's a damn good quote. It sums up in one
sentence why the only rational course of action for
American voters is to send Bush and his cronies packing.

There is none so blind as those who will not see. Are you aware that
Bush will only appear before the 9/11 commission if he is accompanied
by Vice Pretzeldent Cheney? Do you really not see how wimpy this
makes Bush look?

Examine the false assumptions:

1) "the president ... got us into this mess,"

COMMENT: This blames President Bush for ALL the
circumstances which caused the Clinton adminis-
tration and the U.N. to characterize Saddam
Hussin's Iraq as a "rogue nation."

You're one confused dude, PJ. Documents show that Bush was planning
to invade Iraq almost from the moment he took office. The invasion of
Iraq was completely unnecessary, and a distraction from the real war
on terrorism. Bush actually pulled resources away from the hunt for
Osama bin Laden to put into play against Iraq. Clinton has nothing to
do with Bush's *****-up, PJ.

COMMENT: This implies that freeing the people of Iraq
from the terrible despotism of Saddam Hussin was not a
worthwhile thing to do.

Boy, that's cynical. Bush's father called Hussein "a man we can do
business with" and Republican administrations have befriended
"terrible despots" for decades. Right now, the Bush Junta is all
buddy-buddy with Uzbekistan, despite that country's miserable human
rights record.
http://www.hrw.org/press/2001/10/uzbek1020.htm
Thousands of Iraqi civilians have died or have been maimed by U.S.
military aggression in Iraqi. Now, unemployment in Iraq is rampant,
the country is on the brink of a civil war, and we have nowhere near
enough boots on the ground to keep order.

2) "...who had no trouble sending our young people
to Iraq..."

COMMENT: Meyerson would have us believe -- without a
scintilla of evidence -- that President Bush is uncaring
and unthinking about the welfare of the military troops.

Message-ID: <6ed74dfa.0307011037.5f6a3ea5@posting.google.com>
"June 30's Army Times carried this harshly critical
opinion piece which condemns Bush and the GOP for
saying one thing and doing quite another when it
comes to "supporting our troops" ... "
Of course, the Army Times is just another libberul propaganda rag,
huh?

3) "...but who cannot steel himself to face
the Sept.11 commission alone."

COMMENT: Again, Meyerson makes assertions without evidence.
In this case, he implies the President is a coward.

As mentioned previously, Bush will only appear before the 9/11
commission if he is accompanied by Vice Pretzeldent Cheney.

The fact that the situation if frought with unwanted
possibilities of setting binding precidents on the
constitutional issues of separation of powers between the
Executive Branch and Congress.

*****. The purpose of the hearings is to determine what happened,
or didn't happen during the months leading up to 9/11, so that we can
do better at protecting our citizens from terrorist attacks on our own
soil. It is not a grand jury proceeding to determine culpability.
But that is how the Bush Administration is behaving - almost as if
they have something to hide.

We should also note the unseeming eagerness some Democrats
have shown in trying to use the hearings to embarass the
President to impact on the elections.

From any standpoint, the Bush Administration is a miserable failure.
Bush *should* be embarrassed.

[VERY BIG SNIP BY SPARAKUS]

Get over it, you whiny little child.

All this shows is that Meyerson was as sloppy with the
facts...

But what value can we place on the statements of a
journalist who is "sloppy with the facts" to trash
the POTUS and his VP?

Why are you lying again, Jackass? Can't you tell the truth about
ANYTHING? He didn't trash anyone. He stated facts about the
president and offered his opinion as to what should be done about
it.

...as those who thought Iraq had WMD and ties to Al
Qaeda and all the rest.

Now who was sloppy with the facts?

You're not sloppy. YOu're a shameless liar.

I noticed your cite was also appreciated by the Democrat National
Committee's site: "Kicking *****."

http://www.democrats.org/blog/

"Apr 2, 2004
An administration mired in scandal

"Kicking ***** reader Jon Perr emails us to point out an
interesting fact: the New York Times has seven stories
today alone about Bush administration misdeeds and scandals.

"Every story is worth reading, but the story on the expanding
probe into the Valerie Plame leak is a must-read, and Krugman
is ? as always ? a pleasure."

I looked for more information on Jon Perr and found:

"Perrspectives.com is the work of Jon Perr, a technology
marketing executive and supporter of Democratic causes
with 20 years of experience in each.

"Currently a software marketing consultant based in Boston,
Jon has long been active in Democratic politics and public
policy as an organizer and advisor in California and Massa-
chusetts. His past roles include field staffer for Gary Hart
for President (1984), organizer of Silicon Valley tech exec-
utives backing President Clinton's call for national education
standards (1997), recruiter of tech executives for Al Gore for
President (2000), and co-coordinator of MassTech for Robert
Reich (2002). He is also a member of the Democratic Leadership
Council and New Democrat Network.

Sounds like the typical male pro-choice cockroach.

IOW, this guy -- who you are quoting -- is a Democrat "spin doctor."

BTW, have you heard about next month's Dem Book of the Month Club
entry?

"Forty-five senators and 10 state attorneys general asked
the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday to withdraw
its proposal on how to regulate mercury emissions from coal-
fired power plants and replace it with a more stringent
proposal."

"A report released by a House committee on Thursday describes
how the Bush administration worked with the United States
chemical industry to undermine a European plan that would
require all manufacturers to test industrial chemicals for
their effect on public health before they were sold in
Europe."
