No, since slaveowners had the option to free their slaves, it was them
and not government imposing slavery. Government was 'pro-choice' on
slavery (with the arguable exception of fugitive slave laws, on which
the existence of slavery has not been shown to have critically
depended).
Can I play? If pro-lifers like to see themselves as abolitionists
vis-a-vis slavery, then their exceptions to abortion are kind of like
abolishing all slavery, except in a few counties in Mississippi and
certainly not favoring the abolition of slavery if the "life" of the
plantation depended on it.
