Also note that the immensely rich and powerful Watchtower Society of
Jehovah's Witnesses (Jabriol's master) has done much worse than the
Eritreans - for just "reading the Bible"!

Through the 1960s to the 1980s, the WTBTS excommunicated JWs from its
monstrous international H.Q. at Bethel for daring to "read the Bible
directly, without using Watchtower publications as an accompanying guide".
[This is because once the half-intelligent JW starts reading the Bible from
the start and in sequence, he sees it does not support any of the
Watchtower's nutty teachings and views. To get them, you have to hop
crazily from one PART of one VERSE of one CHAPTER of one BOOK to another
PART of another VERSE of another CHAPTER of another BOOK - again and again
and again and again...]
But to the poor brainwashed JWs, such excommunication is a CERTAIN DEATH
SENTENCE (they believe tomorrow Jehovah will swoop down and slaughter all
the billions of men, women and kids who are not JWs) for them AND THEIR
YOUNG KIDS.
Worse than being locked up. Mental torture is the worst sort.
Those terrorized were far more numerous than those caught and made examples
of. They thought Jehovah had spotted them even if Big Brother had not, so
they were doomed.
So "Independent Bible study" was more than discouraged - it was stamped out
