AV-commit adultery 13, in adultery 1; 14
1) to commit adultery
1a) to be an adulterer
1b) to commit adultery with, have unlawful intercourse with
another's wife
Notice the difference here from modern usage:
The husband who visits a brothel does not commit adultery - the
prostitute is not "another's wife."
A woman cannot commit adultery in heterosexual activity.
According to the Hebrew cultural reference (Moses' view), the
adulterous man commits a sin by poaching on another man's property. If
the woman is unowned (unmarried), the philandering man has committed no
sin.
