Seek Notice Provision on Abortion." Go to:

Excerpts:

"A month after the Florida Supreme Court ruled
unconstitutional a law requiring that parents be
notified before a minor has an abortion, the
Republican-led Legislature is poised to try a
new strategy: Amend the state Constitution.

Legislative leaders, with the blessing of Gov.
Jeb Bush, said last week they expect to consider,
as early as October, passing a proposed constitu-
tional amendment for the November 2004 ballot
that would require parents be notified when their
child seeks to terminate a pregnancy.
[...]
The consensus is not surprising. Over the vehem-
ent objections of reproductive-rights groups, both
chambers in 1999 overwhelmingly approved, and
Bush signed, the parental notification bill that
the Supreme Court struck down last month.
[...]
Byrd's proposed amendment would modify the state
Constitution's privacy clause, which Florida
justices cited in striking down the 1999 law, to
say it 'shall not be construed to limit the right
or authority of parents or legal guardians to par-
ticipate in decisions concerning the conduct,
medical care, health, safety, or welfare of minor
children.'

The result? Florida attorney general staff told the
House Judiciary Committee last week that the
proposal could go far beyond simply requiring
parents be notified before a girl under 18 obtains
an abortion. It likely would also require parental
consent before the procedure is performed.
[...]
'A teen does not need her parents' permission to
have a baby, to get a Caesarean section or to
have sex,'' said Wendy Grassi, director of public
affairs for Planned Parenthood of Southwest and
Central Florida, the organization that successfully
challenged the 1999 law.

Papa Jack comments:
The "Culture of Death" (COD) repeatedly spends
millions in various states to fight parent notifi-
cation or parent consent laws. They are determined
to strip parents' of authority over any decisions
or actions related to sexual conduct or abortions
for little underage girls. We must ask why?

You appear to be saying that, in fact, unconstitutional laws should
not be fought against. Why is that?

They try to put a good face on it by pretending they
are protecting young girls from abusive families who
would assault or kill them if they found out the girls
were pregnant. But, they offer no studies or stats
to back up these "sky is falling" assertions.

The laws are unconstitutional. That is the *best* reason to fight
them, instead of supporting the violation of people's rights as you
do.
